Saw on tv, that they are going to do enhanced enforcement of the new move over law this month.
For those that haven't heard, the law dictates that you move over one lane, when law enforcement or even a tow truck is on the side of the road.
If you can't get over to another lane, you have to slow down 20mph under the posted limit.
They are planning to sit one car beside the highway, and pull over all that ignore this law.
Just a heads up to all before you get that ticket...

The law is designed to minimize the impact of unsafe conditions on the highway -- vehicles on the shoulder. So to ensure compliance with the law the FHP is going to create unsafe conditions on the highway hoping to catch somebody that doesn't properly react to it. That is criminal in spirit, IMHO.

The law in Florida was passed in 2012 if my memory is correct. However the only place without a MOL now, is Washington D.C.
Bama and Georgia are doing the same in coordination with Florida this month , so watch out no matter where you are.

I guess all the real crime is solved, so they have the time to spend our tax money on this garbage.

I always had a lot of respect for the FHP until they set up a young kid (who was killed)for a traffic crime committed by an FBI agent in South Florida. I know there are many fine officers out there, but there are at least as many who are thugs.

People who don't use cruise control and average my speed are what drive me up the wall. They pass you, then slow down, then speed up when you try to pass them again. Roar alongside you, then stay even with you until a line of cars piles up behind them and seals you in behind a slow poke until everybody you just passed passes you again.

It's hard for them to enforce it, especially in a court of law because usually the officer has no proof.
(correction?), You have to get over when you see an offcier along the shoulder of the road and if you can't, you have to slow down to at least 20 mph under the posted speed limit?
Know a couple of people who got pulled for this when it first came out but in court/judge's chambers, the officers couldn't prove how fast they were going because they had no radar/video evidence record because they were already out of their cars dealing with someone they pulled over.
In many cases, they can't just claim by the eye test how fast someone was going.

Or those who do this but instead just drive along in your blind spot the entire time, or when you go to pass around them they suddenly speed up and pace alongside you.
I have no idea why people do this.
I hit a deer the Saturday night before Christmas because some idiot was sitting in my blind spot. I saw the deer up ahead and had a split-second to change lanes and looked over in my door-mounted RV mirror, and there was this idiot just riding along in my blind spot that had been there since I gotten off I-10.
So I had to hit the deer instead instead of moving over and plowing into them.

That's because they want to speed but don't want to be the "lead" car going down the interstate.

The HWP has radar and video, so I wouldn't count on going to court and winning, when its just easier to obey the law.

Lookout for the FHP on motorcycles. Those POS only purpose to to give drivers $110.00 tickets for seatbelts. That is what really peeves me. They let idiots ride around with no helmet and give me a ticket for not wearing my seatbelt.
Not to mention the legislature is considering a texting law. I can't tell you how many times I see women putting on makeup, eating cereal, reading going down the highway. Don't they already have a law against distracted driving. Enforce what's already on the books don't make new laws!

OOPS! I was just warning the wife and she corrected me. It is 20 mph under the posted speed limit. Not 20 mph! lol I thought that was a bit crazy.

I always move over a lane anyway whenever a car is on the side of the road. I always fear some kid will come running across the road. And here in Cal...I'd like to mount a howitzer on the front of my car and waste every vehicle that isn't going the speed of the traffic flow. They should lose their licenses if they're in the left lane and people are having to pass them on the right to move it along. In Fla people just flash their lights-which is southern for 'move your dub ass over.' Som-bitches...

I tried to stay out of this thread, but after seeing your post--I gotta jump in and fully agree with you. Being a sales rep spending most of time behind a steering wheel in the states of Florida/Alabama/Georgia--I have pretty much seen it all out there and this concept you noted is one of my top annoyances I run into ALL THE FRIGGIN TIME!
What is worse IMO however happens up and down I-75 from Atlanta down through Florida. Most all of it is six lanes now--three on each side. As most functioning brains know, right lane--slower traffic...center lane...traffic flow lane(move along at speed limit or the speed the traffic in general is moving)...left or 'go fast' lane which truckers call them--for passing along faster than average and hopefully moving back over to center or right lane when you get ahead of others. Well---the morons(mostly snowbirds from the states of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, etc) seem to think the center lane is for parking their non-thinking ass in and locking down their cruise control just under the speed limit. I have had to get bogged down behind these nutscratchers on a perpetual basis and just get fuming when the rest of the world passes you at NORMAL speeds in the left lane and the really slow pokes are spaced just far enough apart in the right lane, that you are screwed in hoping to find a window of opportunity to get around the screwballs pulling their oversized travel trailers coming down to Flawda to Bice fish. Pisses me off beyond words.
What they don't even realize--18 wheelers are limited to right and center lanes and use the center to pass most of the time. They get behind one of these center lane hoggers and ride right on their ass for miles--flashing their lights--honking horns--damn near pushing them with their rigs, yet the idiot vacationers don't have the foggiest idea why the 7 truckers lined up behind them are honking, barking, cussing, flahsing to get them to move their pathetic asses over to the right. When they finally DO have enough sense to move over--they look up at the trucks with a glare as if THE TRUCKERS were the idiots at fault.
Needless to say, when I finally get around them I always give them "the look" to let them know just what I think of their driving...lol. (as if that really makes them better drivers huh)

That post is as rude as not moving over when a car is on the side of the interstate. I think they should give out tickets to people who don't know how drive safely and be considerate.

When they finally install magnetic force shields in vehicles this won't be an issue. They've had the technology for at least 2 decades, but it would cripple auto sales, body shops and insurance companies. Forget about the 1000s of lives it would save every year.
A million people have died in auto accidents since this technology was developed, and no one is even talking about it openly.

The center lane is now the defacto slow lane due to so many on ramps that make you move over and back like a yo-yo. For many, its just safer to stay in one lane and drive a set speed.
If a driver won't let you move into the center lane when traffic is moving into your lane, that in itself is unsafe as well. That is why so many just stick to the middle lane, as for them it is just safer which means you are safer also when they stick to one thing you can predict.
Its the guy who uses every lane to move up two car lengths, that creates more problems than those who are consistant, even when they are a pain.
