I disagree. I'm not saying Kelly is an NFL coach but It's not like he has the same players Saban has.

If Saban was with the right organization I think he'd have success in the NFL. Belichek wasn't good with Cleveland. He landed a job with a good organization and now he's an all time great.

Kelly left the country after meeting with the Eagles and could not be reached for comment.

Let me see if I got this straight: ND just played in the BCS title game like 48 hours ago. ND just got their asses kicked like 48 hours ago. And Brian Kelly has already interviewed with the Eagles, can't be reached for comment, and freakin left the country!

Many don't probably have a plan set in stone. They just know they don't like where they've been. I can see their point, that if they know they are going to make a change, cut the ties and start looking. I think most teams probably have a list of potential candidates. Also, they know a lot of coaches are going to be available on black Monday, so their pool will be bigger. The sooner the old coach is gone, the better.

This is part of what I don't get about the NFL. They just recycle the same old coaches over and over again. Why fire your coach just to hire someone that another team also thought merited firing?

Kelly denied having any interest in an NFL coaching job this past Saturday, claiming that leaving Notre Dame "is not an option. I don't even think about it."

I'm not in agreement here. I don't think he was there long enough to do much and the players he added didn't amount to much, save Ronnie Brown (who had a few good years). He did have as much control as you could expect as Randy Mueller was a figurehead GM. Huizenga never said no to anything that Nick wanted. His strategy to build a winning NFL team by over relying on SEC players did not work. He was hamstrung by a poor salary cap situation, which you can't fix in two years.

He was far from the worst coach Miami has had since 1996 though and it's possible that he would have made them better if he had stuck with it.

However, as big fat Tuna says, you are what you're record says you are. 6-10 his last year and 1-15 right after he left speaks volumes.

So he went 9-7, 6-10 so the jury was still out although I thought the team was definitely improving under his watch. However, I don't see how he takes the fall for the following 1-15 season when neither of his seasons went like that.

Jason Taylor had two of the best years of his career with Saban, I'll give you that.

Wannstadt and Spielman left Miami in a mess though. I guess Saban didn't have the patience to work through it.

However, Terry told me one year at Thanksgiving that she hated living in South Florida. That might have been the proverbial straw when Mal Moore starting ringing Nick's phone off the hook.

If you can't beat saban then you can't win in the NFL I'm sorry...There is no rationale for this. Belichick lost to Saban 2x. In fact, during their four games, the Saban Dolphins outscored the Patriots. And yet, Belichick seems to have done just fine.

Getting beat-down in the pros is no biggie, but when he plays his next SEC team in the BCSCG he'll end-up getting embarrassed........again.

He should take the money and run.

He should leave for the NFL before he too gets a throat-attack after losing to 'bama.

I agree.

I know he was good.... I saw them play all the time here in Central Florida. My little sister knows both Jay, John...... and their dad very well. I've never met them personally but she said that their both really nice/genuine guys.

John told her that any time I wanted to see the Bucs practice in preseason at DWWOS that I could stand on the sidelines with her and watch... I missed that opportunity and now I regret it.

If he's doing it for a raise, he's a smart cookie.

If he's doing it with genuine interest, given his recent comments, he's a prized schmuck.

Either way, I reckon he goes now. He marked his own card by showing himself to be a total hypocrite - "I'm not interested at all..." and then "Oh, yeah, ok I'll interview with you..."

If it's offered, I think he kind of has to go now. Besides, getting fired from the Eagles one day will still probably make him a prized commodity to someone back in College. On the other hand if he screws up at ND now with his reputation somewhat tarnish, he won't get a coaching gig in the upper tier at another big college.

He's not going to do that. He's been asked about the possibility of doing that and here's what he said:

“I made this clear to Gene Smith (Ohio State Athletic Director), if I am to go coach, I want to coach at one place, Ohio State University. It would be a travesty, it would be ridiculous to coach at Ohio State for one year, then all of a sudden go throw some other colors on my shirt and go coach at a different place. I don’t want to do that. I have too much love for this University and these players and for what we’re building at Ohio State."

So OSU fans can rest easy, you can see from this quote that there's no possible way he'll leave OSU to coach at ND.
