International news juggernaut Al Jazeera may soon be reaching a wider American audience. The organization is reportedly dotting the i’s on a deal to acquire Current TV, the cable-news channel founded by Al Gore seven years ago. Current TV is currently available in 60 percent of American homes with cable or satellite. As part of the reported new deal, Al Jazeera will create a new channel based in New York that will produce about 60 percent of its content in the U.S., and use its Qatar-based Al Jazeera English channel to program the other 40 percent. While Al Jazeera may retain some Current staffers, Current’s lineup will probably dissolve in the spring.

I am mostly surprised that they would feel the need to change the line-up at all.

Business wise this is a smart move by them. They have programming but it is stuck in cable purgatory. This gets them a decent cable slot for probably next to nothing price wise.
I have mentioned before I will watch some of their stuff, it isn't the radical programming it's made out to be. It definitely has a middle east slant, but not in a militant way, and provides some interesting info.

I'd watch for at least a week. The visual alone is priceless.

Glen Beck tried to buy it first.

Again it makes sense for anyone who wants a ready made station with decent access at a good price. If Gore had a say though he would probably rather go broke than sell it to Beck.

Al Gore tried to get the deal closed before the Cap Gains tax increase went into effect. Gore was on TV two months ago bemoaning low tax rates for rich folks. Liberal hypocrite.

He isn't a hypocrite. He is "playing" an executive on TV. He is exempt from the term.

It was a joke, I figured that was apparent.

Al jazeera is pretty good if you want to follow middle eastern events. They bring in people from opposite sides and there may be bias but show me a media outlet here that isn't biased. You won't get much coverage on those issues on Fox or MSNBC and when you do it's woeful. BBC is a bit better though.

As far as State and corporate media propaganda is concerned, Al Jazeera is pretty good.

But it's still just propaganda disguised as honest, independent journalism.

Rick Scott wanted to give funds to church schools. Guess what, that money would have gone to any Muslim school also as once you open that door, it is wide open for all.

In a free nation, they can do what they want, but I don't have to watch or buy from any cable service that makes me pay for a channel I won't watch.

remaining quiet as a church mouse about Mitt Romney using extensive loop-holes to pay 10-12% tax per year on excess of $10 million in income,.

loophole? The income tax rate on capital gains and dividend income is 15%. How is that a "loophole?" Should he have paid a higher tax rate to appease tax loving liberals?
