There was apparently a conference called at 5:00 PM tonight by house republicans and Boehner will resign.

Don't blame him. Would you want to have to negotiate with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid or Obama? Shoot me. I'd rather play golf.

Very ineffective speaker, but there is probably no one left in the house with any gonads.

Seems unlikely as the NY/NJ Republicans just were given a promise of a vote on Sandy relief from the Speaker and stated their support for him continuing as speaker (of course this is after they absolutely unloaded on the Republican House leadership earlier in the day).

Love to see a good in-fight as the Republicans fight the Tea Party for the soul of their party. It only can mean that the Republicans either get their house in order by getting rid of the Tea Party, or they fail to become a viable choice for many people. A Win-Win to me.

Who wouldn't want to play golf instead of negotiating? That is kind of like saying "I hate mowing the yard. I would rather be golfing."

If a coup is unsuccessful, that's a man that will dish out serious retribution...

Let's do some math!
1) The base of conservative - and I mean truly conservative, fire-and-brimstone, drown the government, arm the babies - voters in America is shrinking.
2) Elections are won by gaining MORE votes than your opposition.
So the winning strategy is... double down on energizing the smaller base?
No. This "race to the right" thing going on in the Republican party right now is a loser. There just isn't a large enough base of voters out there to keep it meaningfully afloat. If they want to preserve a seat at the table they are going to have to move left.
Good luck with it.

And why is the tea party so evil?
because they want people to be personally responsible for their actions and choices....
and they want less gubmnt spending and smaller gubmnt...
and they don't want the US being the world's policeman...
and they want to secure our borders....
and they don't care about what you do in your bedroom or smoke in your pipe....
and they believe in a woman's right to choose....
and they want to scrap the tax code and implement a flat tax....
and they want a balanced budget amendment brought up for vote...
and they reject cap and trade and carbon taxes....
and they want to eliminate useless federal departments and have more states rights wrt things like education and health care....
and if they aren't painted as evil all that other stuff will make sense to a lot of people that will vote a lot of other people out of power (dems and "pubs" alike)
now the tea party needs to discharge some of the lunatic fringe that has jumped on board and emphasize the important stuff above

The only problem that I have with the Tea Party is that many, if not most of them DO want to be the world's policeman, and all the more.
Other than that, I approve of their wanting to lay waste to government.

As I said, it seemed unlikely.
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2013/01/03/boehner-under-fire-from-some-conservatives-re-elected-speaker/?hpt=hp_t1
Rep. John Boehner was voted by his colleagues into another term as House speaker Thursday despite receiving harsh criticism from some conservatives over his handling of the deal to avoid the fiscal cliff.
