View Full Version : short synopsis of each Gator commitment?

for those of us that don't follow recruiting as closely as we should, can anyone offer a short 2 or 3 line summary of each of this year's committments? or, add your thoughts on the players in 2013 class you do know something about?

I am going to do one in the next week for the offensive and then the defensive side. It will have "the good" "'the bad" and projections for playing time. Of course this will be in my non expert opinion

There should never be a "Bad" attached to Gator recruits...it solves nothing and can create problems for the coaches who have worked hard to get players. If you do some sort of list jst make it positive...true for non-experts.

It is not going to create any problems for the staff I might not write "bad" but it is not going to be all great news where people think they are getting the Patriots.

Nobody thinks the incoming class will make us the Patriots, nor is anyone concerned about how it impacts the site staff - The point he made is that is that denigrating an 18 year old kid won't add anything of value to a thread, not least as you can't know for sure how recruits will work out yet. I agree with ofmgator, it's not that a point wouldn't be valid, it's that it's unnecessary - the way you phrased your initial response sounded like it would be some sort of subheading for categorisation!
Thank you in advance for your write up though - your input is appreciated.

I'll appreciate the insight, AZ. I don't think you will put anything that will be controversial. Just point out aspects of the recruit that can be improved during his time at UF, right?

It will basically be what they are good at, what place they don't excel, where they need to improve to get on the field and when they should see the field.
So Kelvin Taylor-
1.great vision balance and build amazing jump cut for age
2 not the fastest back in the world but has adequate speed
3 needs to learn the play book and pick up blocking schemes
4 expect him to see the field day 1 but he wont start
It will be a little more in depth in paragraph form

I feel like we are trying to flip GATORAZ. He was ours, then he decommitted. And now we are in a dead period. Hopefully, he switches back to us and is an early enrollee. He needs a spring to get ready by fall.
He could make an immediate impact if he comes in during the spring and is part of the offseason training program. We don't have much depth on this board when it comes to compiling all the info needed during recruiting season. He's a game changer and can make an immediate impact.

I'd just go ahead, geek out, and do it myself; I just don't get the time to watch much tape anymore. It probably wouldn't be as complete as AZ's. Having a wife and a one-year old sort of put an end to all of my nerding so, my days of looking at high school film, while slayin' some dragons up in my room, are long gone.
I'll say this, though: Of the actual tape I've seen from our incoming class, Keanu Neal had the most jaw-dropping footage of them all. That kid is going to leave the mark of excellence on Florida's program before all is said and done.

Looking forward to the write up. I usually find a recruit I think will do well and follow him. Purifoy was one and he worked out well. Then Fowler last year. Some saw real potential in Morrison and they were right. This year I've not picked one yet. AZ-what say you?

Example
Octavius Jackson OL
Octavius Jackson is a 6-4 305 lbs tackle out of Georgia who plays for former Hoover high coach Rush Probst. Even though Jackson is already 305lbs he has the frame to probably carry 20 or 30 more lbs comfortably. Jackson biggest asset is his athleticism, for a man his size he can really run. This is vital for the offense Florida has installed this year. Brent Pease has pulled guards often and Jackson should excel in this department at the college level. The downside to Jackson is although he is very athletic he doesn’t have great “feet”. More than his feet he struggles to bend at the knees, so even though he plays tackle in high school it looks like he will move inside to guard once he gets to Gainesville. Florida is loaded across the Oline next year so expect for Jackson to redshirt.

So when we have the good the bad and the ugly after each game, is it ok because they are a year older?? It is what it is. If it is done in a respectful way then I see nothing wrong with it. I do not want to hear just the good on our recruits. I would like to know what their weaknesses are also. I am looking forward to what gatorz has to post. These kids are looked up to everywhere they go while in high school. Personally, if I was a player, I would like to know what people thought about my game both good and bad. If these kids cannot take constructive criticism, then they have a long road ahead of them. This may be the reason some of these stars never pan out. They have always heard that they are the best and this and that and when they get to college, they get star struck when they get hit in the mouth or find out they are not as good as everyone as been saying. I guarantee that our coaches tell like it is. If a receiver is lacking in their route running, I am sure they would tell them "Look, you have good speed and hands but your route running needs work. At UF, we will help you fix that to make you the complete receiver".

Hello AZ,
Just checking on the status of this request :)
I was thinking if it is too time consuming of a task, perhaps you can just do say a few more examples like you did for Octavius Jackson. Like not a ton of examples, maybe say just 22 more examples??? Just so we can get a better flavor of what you are doing.
Thoughts?
