There are a few reasons we have an opportunity to flip Walker. One of them is because FSU took his lead recruiter from Bama.

This is a real good reason.... BUT he has always liked us.

So...do all high school coaches hate us, or just the ones who coach the players we really want? Are we going to start hearing about Jacquez Green steering guys away from us at Tallahassee Lincoln?

Geis has been giving some real interesting interviews lately. I can see him trying to talk Walker into a different direction than Florida. Not that I think he hates Florida. During Walkers recruitment Geis was real complimentary of two staffs Clemson and Bama.

Why, is he getting a job in the Bama coaching office or is a booster sending him some nice Christmas gifts??

Sucks Caleb got dinged up and isnt playing. I'd like to at least see what he can do against some elite OL.

Oh, and some of these hs coaches are on serious power trips. What a bunch of hanger-ons. Pathetic really.

I try to remind myself that the vast majority of high school coaches are probably, hopefully just truly grateful to coach and teach these young men and encourage them to make the best decision for themselves and their families.

The bad apples that are looking for a booster handout or attention grab really sour you on the whole the lot sometimes.

I worked at Sandalwood for a year with the athletic teams a few years ago...(it was Walker's freshman year I believe)...anyway while I have nothing bad to say about Geis personally because he treated me well and was very cordial, while it would shock me, it wouldnt exactly surprise me either if he was trying to steer Demarcus to a certain school or coach...he is your testerone driven alpha male who likes to have control over things/people...

They should talk to

Demarcus Robinson
Jalen Ramsey

Young and Quinn the the Under Armor game.
Elijah Daniel
Montravius Adams
Caleb Brantley
Shaq Wiggins

They might send White to the Sempher fi game because of Collins.

I dont think we need a corner but the staff would like one. I am not sure the staff would take Wiggins if they wanted him they could get him. They would take Ramsey and Alexander I could see a mystery guy popping up as well just dont know who. The class of 2014 is loaded with DB's that the Gators could get so its ok if we only take VH3. The problem is we lose Jalen in 2014 and what if Roberson Purifoy or both go pro.

I get the feeling that Robinson is just one of those kids who can't say no to anybody - meaning family, HS coach, UF coaches, Clemson coaches, etc. I suspect he's one of those kids who just wants to make everybody happy. Not a bad trait, but at some point, he's going to need to make a decision. I think his heart is at UF, but most of his personal influences want Clemson.

If you watched Walkers intro and him after the game with fellow Alabama commits, its hard to imagine him flipping. His twitter is all Alabama (custom Alabama apparel), his coach wants him there over UF and he is all about representing Alabama for a so-called possible flip. No insider knowledge, but I would put him at 25% chance of coming to UF and Robinson at 50%

Good points, what sticks in my mind is Fowler who was FSU until NSD. That wasn't shocking though, he was taking pics in a Florida jersey. Walker has not shown any Florida favoritism since he's been committed. This visit comes across as a "just make sure" and maybe even as a favor to Muschamp for his efforts. There's a chance for sure, but I don't think it's as much of a sure thing that many are saying (not pointing to AZ, browsing comments here and on other sites)

I really would have liked for our next DL commit to be from Walker, but hey, can't win them all. It did look good there for a minute, so good that I can't really say it's over until he is attending class on Bama's campus.

But we are still in it for a few great DL... Monty Adams on campus is a huge plus. We also get Jaynard Bostwick's last visit. Also, a Jason Hatcher visit... I really think we'll get him, having Joker Phillips from the home state is another plus.

And like you said, Jarran Reed is going to visit. I like our chances here as well. But if we were to get Monty Adams to commit, I am uncertain if we would pursue other DT's.

Brantley, Adams and Cummins. I really think Antonio Riles will end up more of a DT rather than a DE, too.

Things are still looking on the up!

With a kid like Demarcus Walker who is a coveted recruit and has announced visits to rival schools, the NCAA needs to step in with these violations and put their foot down. Preventing the violator from signing the players they broke rules with would be a nice start.
This won't happen though, as the NCAA is a freaking joke. (See lack of serious punishment for REFsu, USC, Alabama...etc)
They won't do anything unless it starts hurting the interest in their product. Sad and sick but true. They prove year after year that it's better to cheat than not.

Geez, things went from looking great for Walker to he doesn't even visit. Reminds me of that big recruiting weekend where we had 2 silent commits (Anzalone and a Michigan decommit) and both ended up going elsewhere. If we don't get Robinson, then that'll be another slap in the face. We went from flying high with a possible 1 loss season and a top 3 ranking, to getting thumped by Louisville, losing out on some big name recruits, and watching the class ranking go from 1 to 3. I'm hoping for a strong finish and not something like what happened last February on national signing day. :nervous smile:

Worst case fellas, if we lose Walker and Robinson, we still finish with a consensus top 5 class....again thats WORST case....do I need to bring up the word PERSPECTIVE again?

We have the top RB and the top CB coming in...thats a great place to start...

Our class is great, no doubt there is potential in this class to make 11 win seasons the norm again. However, after watching our offense sputter a guy like Robinson could REALLY help us next season when the expectations on Driskel will be SEC Championship or bust.

I don't disagree. One thing I've noticed in following recruiting for several years is that when when a recruit who is committed to one school goes quiet, especially just prior to signing day, it usually means something is up.

If he was really solid to Bama, and he meant what he told the Bama coaches about being there today, typically, he would announce that to the media as well.

I think that Robinson made his last public statement that he was back leaning to Clemson and went quiet because he wanted those people in his life pushing Clemson to back off.

What Walker has done over the last few days sound very similar. Give a final indication to the school the pressure is coming from so they'll back off and then go quiet until it's too late. Almost like maybe there could be a little "coaching" going on. ;)

says Walker to FSU which is BS because he was going to go to Florida until Geis got involved

http://jacksonville.com/sports/high-schools/2013-01-08/story/sandalwood-de-demarcus-walker-switches-alabama-florida-state

andalwood defensive end DeMarcus Walker is staying in state — at Florida State.
The consensus four-star recruit pulled a stunning last-second switch, backing away from his commitment with BCS national champion Alabama to play for the Seminoles.
Saints coach Adam Geis confirmed late Monday night that Walker (6-4, 265), a Times-Union Super 11 and Super 24 selection, would enroll early Tuesday at Florida State.

Walker is rated as the nation's 35th best prospect by ESPN, and a top 70 player nationally by every major recruiting publication.
Geis cited the proximity to home and Walker’s tight relationship with new Florida State defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt, the former defensive backs coach at Alabama.

He’s recruited Walker for nearly two years.
Now, Walker becomes the jewel of the Seminoles' incoming defensive crop.
“He really got kind of nervous about going that far away from home,” Geis said. “I think

DeMarcus, in the end, felt more comfortable with Jeremy.”
It ended a whirlwind four-day span for Walker, who played in Friday’s Under Armour Game in St. Petersburg and admitted during the week that he’d take a late visit to Florida. He wound up backing off that comment at the last second and spent the last three days in an emotional tug-of-war on where to play.
He was scheduled to enroll Monday at Alabama, but he stayed home to ponder his choices.
Walker wound up going with the Seminoles and didn't even need to visit the campus over the past few days to finalize his decision.

Many thought Walker would flip to Florida, which a slew of players from the First Coast have chosen to attend.
But Walker’s bond with recruiter Pruitt and the chance to play two-and-a-half hours from home was a sales pitch that he couldn't pass up.

Walker is one of a handful of players from the First Coast to graduate and enroll in college early.

First Coast linebacker Daniel McMillian (Florida), Sandalwood quarterback Parker Boehme (Duke), Yulee running back Derrick Henry (Alabama), and Camden County, Ga. quarterback and running back Brice Ramsey and J.J. Green, respectively, to Georgia.

Walker recently changed households from his dad's place to his mothers. Once that happen he was not going to Bama. His mother did not want him going far from home. Muschamp had been talking to Demarcus and his mother and assuring them Florida was the place for Walker. This was all happening without Geis really being involved since Walker was already out of school.

When Geis got down to the all american game he started pushing Bama and FSU. Walker has a very good relationship with Pruitt. It seems Geis used that to get Walker to FSU and away from Florida.

I can understand him going there - the guy he was closest to in the recruiting process went there and he's been open about saying how much Pruitt has helped him throughout.

I'm also convinced that Walker must look at our young DEs like Bullard and Fowler and then see guys like Werner, Jenkins and and Carradine leaving FSU and think his playing time has to be more tempting there. Mario Edwards has been, IMO, a collossal disappointment this year as the overall No.1 recruit in the Nation (I assumed he'd been red-shirted for most of the year because so little had been mentioned of him so far...anywhere!). It looks like Walker can go in and make an impact which I'm not convinced he will be able to do as much here.

So for those reasons, it's hard to slate him for being "illogical". Actually there's some sound logic to it indeed.

That said, I went through the process of choosing universities in England for around 15 months (not for an athletic scholarship, I must admit!) and lots of time and effort went into reducing the numbers etc. I had an academic advisor help me throughout the process and I'm very grateful to him.

I'm not sure though if, 24 hours or so before I was due to begin classes, he says "Go to this university instead of all of the others you've considered because I'm going there!" that I'd have just towed the line and gone. DeMarcus is his own man - I know relationships matter - but just choosing a school for one guy is risky ground, IMO. What if Pruitt is snagged for a HC job in 2 years? I just feel edgy about it all as a basis for a sound decision.

That said, it is DW's to make and even as a Seminole I wish him luck. (He's going to need it in the Swamp next year!)

I think you're probably overthinking it a bit relative to the depth chart. It was probably more like Geis and Pruitt saying "You're going to FSU", and Walker saying "Yes, sir".

Ok I think I figured this out. DeMarcus is going to FSU because Denson is coming here. DeMarcus is going to FSU because they will have no O-lineman in this class to block him! Smart move...

You really want to shock the world? Fine - announce to everyone that you will be quitting football in order to attend Juilliard to study modern dance. But, changing schools on NSD isn't a shocker.

I know right? Just goes to show you these kids have strange world view.

I'm overthinking the fact he values a coach relationship and playing time? The guy *must* have at least considered both. Both bode well for FSU there. I don't see how I'm overthinking that? (Maybe my own reflections...)

My attitude towards these types is that they are practicing self-selection, i.e. they are weeding themselves out now. He obviously sees a stacked Gator D and doesn't think he'll be promised a starting job. He sees a loaded Bama team that just demolished ND and has some self doubt about his ability to compete on that level. So instead, he gives up any dream of being in the BCS game and goes to a school where he will be possibly the best player on the team, shine in a miserable conference, and maybe get drafted for some big bucks. Honestly, its for the best that he weed himself out now rather than come to Gainesville and pull a Coxson or a Fayson later.

Nope, not wishing the kid luck at FSU. If it was the sugar bowl loss that did this, then I really could care less about the kid. He wasn't really loyal in the first place.

You just made a massive mistake kid. Enjoy wasting your college football career in the ACC

What a miserable thing to wish someone. You are taking this way to serious. It really does not matter. He is comfortable with the coach who moved from Bama and we did not make the inroads early on.
I promise UF will have someone lined up at that position.

So wanting to beat the team he chose is being lame and condescending? Ok Gator fans, here's the new party line when a recruit picks someone else. "Aw man, now they're going to beat us next year when we play them." Maybe we could even work that phrase into the cheer at the stadium.

We take it to another level.. you ever wonder why we are the most hated team in college football ? , not that would be any concern of yours. Our entitlement level is off the charts.

I know I am going against what 99% feels like on this board, but I don't care for the way we disrespect opponents and talk chit about every other team.

Agreed. We love a kid until his goals don't mesh with ours, then we want to burn him in effigy. Obviously didn't think he could handle the expectations here, let him go. He did us a favor. Plus I'm sure Pruitt left him a nice big bag o'cash to comfort him.

I'm pretty confident that UF is more hated than these teams outside of Notre Dame (and maybe now Alabama). Mostly due to Tebow and Urban who were really disliked during their stay.
