For the posters that are going to respond with "trust the coaches" and "rankings don't matter", I've heard these kind of insightful posts plenty of times I don't need to hear that again. I'm trying to have a discussion about recruiting rankings (it's pretty obvious in the title). If you can't add any insight, move on and don't waste your time reading this (I'm putting this note at the top of my post hoping that you will be duly warned).
I really don't get why some of our commits are ranked so low. The way I understand them is that they take the top services' rankings and then come up with a kind of "average" ranking across all of those other sites (I don't think I'm allowed to refer to them by name). Quite a few of our commits are ranked outside of the top 250, but they seem WAY too talented for all of the services to have missed on them. I won't mention the players that I believe are properly ranked this low, but the following players seem to be ranked WAYYYY too low.
Adam Lane (319): Are you kidding me???? Even with his injury I believe he's easily a top 15 RB in the country.
Max Staver (398): I don't know what to make of him, but he seems to have been one of the staff's top 3 choices from the beginning. Great size and coming into a perfect situation at UF.
Cameron Dillard (NR): One of the top centers in the country. If you don't think they matter, just ask Brantley how important it is to have a good center.
Joey Ivie (NR): Seems like everyone is crazy excited about him. Have heard nothing but rave reviews.
Octavious Jackson (NR): Didn't he also have an injury or something? Still, it seems like with his size and what he did before the injury he'd get more nationwide respect then this.
On top of these, it just seems like even our highly rated guys are lower than the buzz surrounding them. It seems like a composite ranking would weed out the "biased" sites and create a more legitimate breakdown, but it doesn't seem like it's working out for our class.
