I am sure he will lose 20-30lbs of fat over the spring and summer and gain 10lbs of muscle. He will have to be quick enough stop an end as fast as Bullard.

He is certainly a big kid, but I'm wondering just how good he is. He was a 3 star kid coming out of high school in 2011 and Rivals (ESPN does not rank JC players) still has him listed as a 3 star prospect. I know 3 star kids can obviously turn out to be very good college players and many have done so in the past. Plus, the fact that Georgia, FSU and Oklahoma apparently wanted him speaks pretty well for him at this point. He should certainly add some needed depth to our OL.
AS, what is your take on Brown?

Judging by the film he is HUGE and fairly raw looking.
Lets see what Dillman can do with him.
Guy could turn out to be a monster or a giant pussy cat.

Wow! Great pick up! Question to rsernia or any others "in the know". Does he get a look @ note tackle, or does the staff stick with strictly o line?
Regardless of where the kid lines up, I hope that Dillman can turn him into a moster that no player wants ANY part of!

I am hardly in the know, but as I recall he came here to play offensive tackle and only offensive tackle. That would preclude the staff from drafting him into the goalline package defensively if they wanted to. I expect him to compete with Humphries at left tackle, maybe even move to right tackle if we were to consider moving Green inside.

Adds depth if non starter. Agree, may lose some lbs. and will increase agility for pass blocking. I think he could be a great run blocker, I like what bama did with speed rushers like jones, run right at them. We needed OL and glad he's a gator.
IMO too tall for noseguard and may not be quick enough for de if he were to play DL.

He seems like a right OT in an offense like UF's, a road grader for Brown, Jones, Taylor and Lane. Its great to have a left OT with that kind of length, but at his weight, I doubt he's quick enough to pick up weak side DEs. Max Starks was his size and he's played his entire college and pro career at right OT.

he is ranked a 4 star by 247. Brown had to go to JUCO which means his grades were not good. The kids with bad grades don't get scouted much out of high school especially a few years ago. He is still a little raw but he has spring ball to ger better he is physically ready to go. Not sure if he will start next year but he will see the field. We lost 2 players in Nixon & Wilson but gained 4 in Garcia Moore Brown & Dunker (he red shirted). The line should be improved because of better talent and depth.

Didn't realize Dunker redshirted. That probably allowed him more time in the weight room. Be interesting to see what he looks like in the spring.

Coldsteel120, it was not a knock on Brown or 3 stars. Geez, lighten up! I have been following recruiting closely for more than 50 years and I know that a) it is all speculation and b) stars don't necessarily mean they will turnout out to be great players. However, that being said, give me a dozen or so Under Armour or U. S. Army All American 4 or 5 star rated kids every year and I will take my chances. My question is legitimate. Everyone is acting like Brown is coming to us as the best OL in the country and a sure fire starter. He may well be and I hope he is, but history tells us old Gators that JUCO guys are a wait and see proposition in most cases. Just a dose of reality my man!

I dont think he is a sure fire starter but he brings depth and thats what this LOline needs more options. We wont have games where we have to play freshmen next year. Or play Kyle Koehne at 3 different positions.

Dillman will work 20 lbs. off of him but with his height, he could handle 325 - 330 lbs. just fine IMO.
And he has two years of eligibility left.

Brown told Zach over at Gator Sports that he was two credits short and wouldn't come until the summer.
With 7 EEs, we are at 32 max. With 26 accounted for, we can take 6 more recruits to get to our current known 85.
StrangeGator
01-09-2013, 04:24 PM
Big loss for spring. Really needed to get him in the weight room and on the field. This probably puts his development back a year. At least as a JUCO he should get on campus by Summer A. Hope he gets a good nutrition and conditioning plan to work on until summer.
ETGator1
01-09-2013, 05:10 PM
My above numbers were off a bit. With Alajajian leaving yesterday, that put UF at 31 with the current known 85 limit.
With Trenton delayed, we are at 30 if there is no more player turnover.
With 26 accounted for, we can take 4 more players unless we have more attrition.

It'll be up to Brown to start a good fitness regime. It's not like he can;t get advice from UF trainers now.
ETGator1
01-10-2013, 09:27 AM
Sorry to mislead, but I was wrong twice. It's not 6 or 4, UF can take 5 more players if we don't have any further attrition between now and NSD.
With 7 EEs, UF can take up to 32. When Nick A. left, UF went up from 30 to 31 that can be signed without going over 85. We have 26 accounted for so UF can take 5 players up to 31 without going over 85.
This gets a bit confusing keeping the 25+7=32 separated from 31+54=85.
Again, sorry to mislead. I hope this clears it up.

This is a bummer for Trenton Brown. If he doesn't report to fall camp in great shape, I wonder if the staff will consider redshirting him.

I bet the staff is pissed they would have not signed him if they knew he was not going to make it until summer.

01-10-2013, 09:58 AM
Not that I'm worried about him doing so but if I read zach's article correctly, he's already signed so if he can't change his mind about going to UF over the next few months, correct?
gymgator
01-10-2013, 10:01 AM
Not sure about that, as he can be in some kind of shape over the Spring and get in shape Summer B, just like the rest of the Freshman. His playing time might be limited until Oct, as DJ, Tyler, Chaz and maybe Trip Thurman get it together over the Spring and Summer workouts. We will be using the 6 OL and double TE sets, so we will need a lot of OTs.

So we have a guy enrolling early in Matt Rolin who will probably redshirt because of surgery but the OL we need doesn't get in till 6 months from now. That stinks.

01-10-2013, 10:17 AM
Does this mean that Brown did not pass the credits he thought he would and thus is 2 credits short?
ETGator1
01-10-2013, 10:25 AM
Zach didn't say. It was said by Trenton that he finished 2 credits short of coming to UF as an EE. I hope it isn't the SEC required math course rearing its ugly head again.

FWIW, in the same article Rolin claims he's going to be ready to play
http://www.gatorsports.com/article/20130109/ARTICLES/130109600/1189?p=all&tc=pgall
Rolin is recovering from surgery on the torn ACL he suffered in November, but he plans to play next season.
“I don't think redshirting is necessary unless my knee is not 100 percent,” Rolin said. “The doctor told me I should be back around fall camp.”
Not that it makes it a given and to your larger point won't really benefit him as much from being an EE as a healthy player

That is disappointing about brown. Hell have to put in the work himself if he wants a spot in the rotation. Does hurt that we essentially miss out on possibly recruiting one more player. Oh well. Most important early additions were taylor and robinson anyways.

I am less concerned about it for Brown than others. We have Green back, Humphries needs the reps, and both Garcia and Moore will be on the roster. In 2014, I suspect one or more tackles ends up at guard, so Brown will be in the mix then, but for now he is mainly around for depth reasons.
The bigger issue would be the ramifications for signing an extra player in this class or the next, but it won't kill us. More annoying than anything.
