If you were a coach, would you rather

Just for the sake of having a basketball discussion, if you were coaching a team, which player would you want. Throw in why if you would like too.

Your starting point guard having 23 points, 4 rebounds, 5 steals, 1 assist and 8 turnovers.

Or

Your starting power forward(who is really a shooting guard/small forward having to play out of position) having 8 points, 11 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 blocks, 6 assists and 1 turnover.

The power forward for me. I don't care what his natural position is, getting 11 boards and 2 blocks shows he probably isn't playing THAT far out of position. What did it for me was the point guard having only 1 assist. His steals almost make up for the turnovers, but ideally a point guard gets others involved.

The power forward was 0 of 1 from 3 point range and was 4 of 7 overall.

Definitely the PF then. If the PG was super-efficient, i.e. 3 of 4 from 3, 8 of 12 overall, that might make me choose him...but as it stands he's kind of a chucker and some of those misses are bound to end up in the hands of the other team. That doesn't count as a turnover, but it serves the same purpose, and makes him even riskier.

I don't know that there's much of a debate. Offensive and defensive efficiency ratings are what a lot of coaches pay attention to nowadays, including Billy. The PG is not being efficient, particularly with the TOs and shooting less than 40%.

After watching us play for years with an average mix of 10 guards and 1 big, I'll take any big PF.

Well strictly from the perspective of those statistics, I would select the Power Forward.

However, if it turned out that in the game of interest, the PG really mentally destroyed the oppositions morale leading to a victory, while the power forward merely played well in the game, whether a victory or defeat, then I might well choose the PG.
