Now before you go and say, "hey, this guy's post count is too low", just know that while I may not post much...I'm here EVERYDAY getting my Gator fix. So, anyway...
My BOLD PREDICTION...
WE WILL NOT LOSE A GAME UNTIL FEB. 26, 2013 IN KNOXVILLE!!!
If we get by Arizona next week, we will not drop a game until we play at UcheaT. I was feeling Mizzou might be our first loss but Dixon quit the team this week and now it's UT. We will enter the SEC Tourney with 1 loss and be ranked #1 or #2 depending on how IU and Dook do this season. So there it is, JM2C!!

Nah...even when we had back to back national titles, we had 6 and 5 losses each respective year.
And your post count is too low.

Too early in the season.
If they were to play the way the did against Marquette every game, your statement may have some validity, but, unfortunately, sometimes they play the way they did against UCF.

Peaks and valleys are the way a season goes. In 2005-06:
1. UF was the last team to lose that season opening as I remember 17-0.
2. Then after opening up 8-3 in the SEC lost 3 in a row and were in some danger of pulling a Clemson, ie last team to lose but not make the NCAA tourney.
3. UF righted the ship and Noah led UF to a win over UGa with I think 33 points.
4. UF never again lost that season winning the SEC and NCAA tourneys.
This team has not been on the road yet. It is a mature team and we should be cautiously optimistic about how it will be as a road team, but lets play at FSU and Zona first.
And always remember there still will be peaks and valley. They are sometime unpredictable too. Let's just hope we get a peak at the end of the year too.

Didn't Brewer hurt his ankle and Jo get mono at some point in 05 after we were 17-0?

No, it was the next year that Brewer had mono while Noah and other got the flue:

and Horford sprained his ankle:
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2705401
though I believe he did play in UF first of two wins over Ohio State that year which he did:

I put in these links because this has come up on several threads today with people muddling various details.

Guys if we play well and get a good seed in the NCAA that's all that counts. Unlike football there is actually a real tournament and if you're in it you have a chance. A good seed will open the door for a better chance.

My better prediction: we will get a 1-seed in the tourney. Everything else is possible but not likely.

Are we handling Arizona on the road?
Bear1974
12-03-2012, 01:30 PM
I think we need to see what they do on a true road game especially if they can maintain what they have been doing defensively up to this point in time.
I think the one thing I always wonder about is the big head syndrome and people telling them how do they are right now.
If they continue to play with a chip on their shoulders and continue to play hard then I think we continue to see good things.
The Arizona game should be the game that we get to see if they are mentality ready or not for the conference season or not. Arizona has been playing pretty well especially this past Saturday against TTech. It looks like they play Clemson at Clemson the game right before they play UF so we get to see a glimpse of them.

We haven't had a single road game yet.
Crazy talk. FSU sucks but it will be a huge test and a measuring stick for our team to go into a hostile environment against a team that while struggling, is more than capable of playing up and pulling off an upset.
And then the huge test at Arizona.

Arizona might be a national title contender. It's interesting that one of their top players, Nick Johnson, was outplayed big time by Jacoby Brissett a few years ago.

Every Arizona fan has the Gator game at McKale circled. Our schedule is a little soft this year, but a win over Florida is truly a signature win. However, it will be an interesting day for Arizona fans, as we play in the New Mexico bowl earlier in the day, and it is also December graduation day. Who knows what kind of crowd will show up.

Once Jacoby became the clear backup to Jeff we should of petitioned to get him on the team. He could of played good minutes at the 3 for us. I know, we don't need him - unless one of our bigs goes down...

Why do people keep bringing up Brissett playing basketball? He was never going to play basketball at UF. He was a good high school basketball player that used his physicality to his advantage. Yes, he had some good games against some decent competition, but he does not have the skill set to crack the rotation on this team. Plus, he hasn't practiced a single minute with this team, knows nothing about our offensive and defensive sets and he has spent the last year and a half getting into football shape.

I mean, I see what you're saying, but where would his minutes come from? He would only get a minute IF a big went down, and if not, he's just warming the bench.
Hypothetically though, if he did join the team, would we even need a "petition" or anything like that, considering he's already on a football scholly?

I disagree with your assessment of Jacoby's basketball talent. He dominated at the City of Palms against the best talent in the country. In the post-season RISE Invitational, he played point guard and dominated in Dwyer's upset of Findlay Prep. Jacoby had 30 points in that game and easily outplayed players such as Anthony Bennett and Nick Johnson. I could see Jacoby being a Deron Williams type of point guard.

So you think Billy Donovan has a Deron Williams type of PG at his disposal and is not using him, why? He would not play point guard in college anyways, especially not at Florida.
I've had this discussion it feels like 30 times on this board, but here goes again:
I think Jacoby could be a Division 1 level basketball player, I just don't feel he is a UF level player or a fit for what we do, offensively or defensively. Just because he was successful at the high school level, does not mean he will be as successful at the college level. Comparing his performance against Findlay to the Findlay players performance against Dwyer in a single game is a poor method of prognostication to the next level.
I feel that a lot of Jacoby's success in high school basketball was due to his physique. He was able to impose his will on high school players, he would not be able to do that in the SEC.
I think if he came to UF on a basketball scholarship and focused solely on basketball, he could eventually develop into a Jodie Meeks type player, maybe by his Junior season. His first few years, especially with the depth on the current roster, would be more like Ray Shipman. The bottom line is that Jacoby is a better football player than basketball player and made a wise decision to play football.

Ingram was about as well thought of as a basketball recruit as Brissett:
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Cornelius-Ingram-12321
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Jacoby-Brissett-84272
Ingram did not work out as a basketball player at the UF level, though I think he probably made a mistake in picking the sport he wanted to seek as a career. Of course that is hindsight.
Brissett too might have a better pro career in basketball. What ever direction he goes it is unlikely to be at UF.

I think what people want isn't Jacoby Brissett but Matt Jones (Arky QB, not Gator RB). It would be nice but an athletic 6-6 football player isn't walking though the door in the foreseeable future. We have a 6-3 athletic player who can provide depth; his name is Michael Frazier II. And I'd bet that Dillon Graham could blow the doors off of Brissett right now also.
