http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ncaab--john-calipari-accuses-duke-of--flopping---backs-down-after-kentucky-loses-13581709.html
When ESPN's Andy Katz stuck a microphone in the Kentucky coach's face at halftime of his team's excellent Champions Classic game against Duke, this was the money quote from Cal: "They're flopping all over the place. In the NBA, they'd all be suspended."
Naturally, Calipari was asked about the flopping comment following the Blue Devils' tenacious, 75-68 victory. His response was a backpedal that would make Deion Sanders jealous.
"I did?" Calipari said. "I don't even remember. What did I say?"
As the reporter attempted to refresh Cal's suddenly faulty memory, the coach cut him off.
"It was a joke," he said. "Come on, you guys can take a joke at Duke. Geez."

He also put together a telethon and raised a million dollars for the Red Cross for the victims of Sandy, but that isnt mentioned much either.

he probably should have mentioned it, then - 'give to the victims', rather than the flopping statement.

With all respect to Jeff and our friendly rivals. . . i find Cal incredibly unlikeable.
That said, he has led some nice fund raisers while at UK, and those should be given the proper attention.

They can start a Coach Cal donated to Red Cross thread and I am sure that people would give him credit.
This is about last nights game...

Coach K's response - "we don't make any money so we can't be fined"
What Coach K is scared of isn't fines, its the NCAA confiscating his players jewelry as a result of the flopping.
Seriously though Cal, don't backtrack from your statement. You clearly meant it. What you stated was the truth. You're going against a coach who unabashedly teaches the art of drawing charges. So if you're going to have the gall to make a statement like that, at least back it up when questioned.

Cal's a funny, likable guy with a charming personality.
That says nothing about any of the larger issues Calipari's strategies raise for the game. It's possible Cal's dirtier than a mud hole. But he's still fun to watch talk.

Cal is the kinda guy, that even when he does telethons for the needy, one can't help but think the exposure for the UK program is the primary beneficiary.

There is a difference between teaching the art of "drawing a charge" and "flopping".
One is good defense, the other is good acting.

That is true . . . and perhaps unfairly so.
He just has the kind of personality.
I recall him instructing one of his players at last years draft on how to hug him so that he is seen on the camera. Ugh.
I suspect he is not as bad as he comes off, but I find his very unlikeable.

The "art" part is where the acting/flopping comes in IMO. Mechanics and art have different implications. I think I've seen him interviewed where he's made tongue-in-cheek statements about this very thing. I'm not saying I blame him really. If the refs call it you're only hurting yourself if you don't take advantage.

Yes, after the game one of the reporters told him about Cal's comment and that was part of his response.

UK players could be fined, because unlike the rest of the NCAA, they ARE paid.

After reading this and punching a few buttons on my calculator, I've added "check monster.com for openings in Red Cross corporate office" to my to-do list.

Appreciate that thank you. I really enjoy this board! The funny thing is if we did pay for this bunch I hope we are doing it in payment plans as they haven't earned much yet!!

Slimey Cal. I dislike that guy so much.
And yeah, my statement is not meant to attack Jeff who is the one UK fan I cannot dislike. I've tried.

Ok... I guess we are just differing in our definintions.
I consider the "art" of drawing a charge --- the ability to anticipate what an offensive player will do, beat him to the spot, establish position and absorb the foul.
I do not give flopping the same consideration.

Doesn't stop him from being a world class jerk. I laugh at this kind of logic. I remember arguing with friends trying to tell me how wonderful Steinbrunner was when he was alive. I told them he was a jerk when he was alive, now he's a dead jerk. You don't get a reprieve because you're dead. That's why it matters how you live your life.
