My 11 year old son was diagnosed with tarsal coalition in August. We paid out of pocket for custom orthodics for him. That has been a $430 waste of money being that he has had no relief of pain. His ortho dr advised us that naybe we should take the orthodics back to where we had them made because he thought they were cut too high. That's great; however we had them made at the hospital he is affiliated with. To top it off, with both feet hurting, the dr recommended putting only one foot in a boot.

Long story short, he's in constant pain and I wish I knew more about the condition from someone who knows about it personally.

Thanks. My son is temporarily in a wheelchair until he sees his new dr next week. Unfortunately with his age, we have limited access to orthos.

Get a Shriner to sponsor him to their hospital, they have the best juvenile orthopedic doctors in the state. Good luck.

Update on my son: We had a second opinion and he is looking at surgery before the end of the year on his left foot & his right foot aftrr recovery.

At 11yrs old he should have plenty of time time rehab and prepare for his football career for The Gators! :)

Definitely... The pain is more frequent, but the good news is he has surgery scheduled for Dec 19th on his left foot. His right foot will follow after the rehab of his left.

Thanks

Fantastic! I know you're a happy parent. My son never had anything so exotic and troublesome, but I did have some anxious moments when he suffered a growth plate fracture.

So far recovery is going well (it's only been one night) but he didn't even want pain meds last night. That's a blessing because I was dreading seeing him in pain. Looks like we will make it to the Sugar Bowl to cheer on my little bro and the rest of the Gators.
