Just saw on gatorzone that the softball team was beaten by Santa fe College 11-2. Isn't that a junior college?
Hope this is a misprint or error. If not, just wow!

Second game of DH they won 13-0. That first score must be wrong.

11-2 Florida. 13-0 Florida in game two is correct.

Gatorzone still has it posted as a 11-2 loss, but Gatorzone softball twitter account says we won both games, 11-2 and 13-0. I sent Gatorzone an email but have not heard back. You would hope that our official athletic website could at least post scores correctly.

I believe they played Santa Fe CC which is in Gainesville. I went to school there.

I'm not surprised at all. What can you expect from a website that doesnt even have the current roster up and the team is all ready playing exhibtion games.

I don't think softball and baseball set their final roster for the current season until the spring semester.

There never really is a final roster. If a website going to report a score, then they should a least have a boxscore or a roster. Maybe we can then know the names of all the players. That way we wont have to depand on a 2nd hand report from the cousin of someone who attended a game 2 weeks ago to find out if a star pitcher from last years team is still on the team.

Very true. Would also be nice if somebody from GC staff stopped in to one of the fall games and updated subscribers on the team.

Rosters are not yet set for baseball or softball. The fall practices are basically try-out periods for invited, and other, walk-ons, and rosters will be finalized later this month. Red, the rosters will be on Gatorzone probably in December or by early January.
There are no secrets- anyone can go out and watch practices but for some reason, no one from GC staff deems it important enough to cover.

Why can't they at least tell us who the scholarship players are? Are there so few who wanted to come back that they are truly counting on walk-ons to complete the roster?

The gates are always locked when I have gone out to watch practices. How do you get in?
Climb the fence ? The one time I went out and the gates weren't locked, I was personally escorted out by the pitching coach and they were just having batting practice.

Sorry, I was referring to baseball- thought softball would be open also. And if it indeed is closed, my question is why?

This is false, there IS a final roster. I do agree that the coverage for baseball and softball is very lacking, but the roster is one place they are just following the rules.
In baseball you have to announce the final roster a week or two before the first game. I think last year the roster was announced in Mid January. Basically the fall you can have extra guys playing with the team, but the offical roster for the season can only have 35ish? guys on it.
Soooo in this case gatorZone is just following protocol. They are not in the position to speculate on who may make the final roster, they just put it up on the website when Sully officially releases it...

This is false, there IS a final roster. .
Tell that to Walton when he had to release 3 of his best players for whatever reason last June right before the NCAA tournament!

jsc28 is correct. I was told by a baseball coach that none of the SEC teams release their roster until required in January because you can start scouting the team just from the information on there. I would assume that softball is the same.
I don't know why the sports' fall seasons are handled differently. Baseball has open practices but plays no other teams. Softball has closed practices but has some fall exhibition games. Not sure if that's standard across the SEC or it's coach's choice.

First of all, to the poster that went to Santa Fe, they are no longer a community college. Second, I was at both games, and we definitely didn't lose. Lastly, WHY IS LAUREN HAEGER NOT PITCHING?!?! I've only been to 4 games in the short fall ball schedule, admittedly. But I haven't seen her in the circle once. Its all Bache and Rodgers. She was dressed out, and she looked like she was in a good mood. (dancing, pictures) I don't get it. Is she getting punished? Illl check back in a month for an answer. Lol GC doesn't exactly bend over backwards for softball. (Understandably)

I believe she is coming off an injury. She needs to work on her conditioning.

For those interested in softball, here is a message board about all things College Softball.
Very interesting thread there about Brittany Schutte. Not sure how much is true or not. This is the internet of course.

Fall baseball is important prep for the season. There are a few guys who get an opportunity to work their way on to the spring roster, but the focus is on building the lineup that will take the field against Duke.
Some veterans are pretty secure and use the fall to develop their skills, but I doubt that a single position was set coming into the fall. That is true to a much greater degree than the fall practice in 2010 and 2011. Thompson, Turgeon, Tobias, Ramjit and a few others know they will play most of the available innings, but there's a chance they'll play in different positions in 2013. For example, Ramjit has been working in RF this fall. Other experienced players, including Powers, Dent, Shafer and Gushue are battling for starting jobs and certainly for innings on the field.
Richie Martin may win the SS job, but other frosh want playing time, too, including pitchers. Certainly, preseason practice in January and February is when the opening lineup is decided and offseason workouts matter, too, but fall practice is much more than a tryout period for walkons.

If you're implying she's over weight, Bache is just as big. If not, disregard my comment.
