With Halloween festivities starting as early as this Friday and the holiday season getting into full swing shortly after its probably about time to start planning ahead.

Here is an article from Lyle McDonald with some good advice.

I never worry about macro proportioning. #6 and #7 are simply calorie budgeting by another name. Works for me. And #10 is probably good advice. What are the holidays for if not to gain two or three pounds that you'll probably lose in January ?

IMO...

They are holiDAYS, not holiWEEKS nor hiliMONTHS.

Going nuts and eating yourself into a coma on 3 days, with a month between each event SHOULDN'T make a single bit of difference if you are disciplined the rest of the 70-ish days that comprise the end of the year. (honestly, you don't even have to be that disciplined)

IMO, go bonkers and eat what you want... FOR THE DAY OF CELEBRATION.

---

I will tell you one bit of advise that I got from one of these "rules of engagement during holiday events" ... only eat what you want to eat. If you really don't like/enjoy green bean casserole, why would you put it on your plate? Just get what you REALLY want to eat.

ATL, I hear you on just celebrating the holiday on that one day. But we both know this time of year is more than just Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. There are holiday parties, leftovers, and either traveling or visiting family which leads to more and more events. Planned or unplanned. Then of course there are the extra burdens that people put on themselves this time of year like shopping and preparing for these big meals so its just a hectic time of year.

Former client of mine swore to me that the holiday eating circuit began late October and continued unabated through New Year's Day.

He's the one client I had to 'fire.'
