On mobile so can't post a link, but on gator country current QB commit Max Staver talks about teammate Jalen Ramsey from Brentwood, TN. He feels strongly that Ramsey will make the switch at some point. Staver said Ramsey was smiling and joking around and walked around Gainesville after the game with several players and had a good time. Ramsey ignored the media but his father responded by text message and said that he really enjoyed the visit. His dad is also a gator fan by the way.

Stupid question, but how much room do we have for DBs? We're losing 2 at the most at the end of the year, and we'd be adding 4 after adding 4 last year. I'm definitely not complaining, I'm just trying to get an idea of who is going to see the field. Pop Saunders and Jabari Gorman could start at safety next year, and we will still have Watkins Roberson Purifoy Riggs and Brown at CB.

This is purely my opinion, and I think the film proves this: But Roberson and Watkins are head and shoulders above anyone else we have at CB. Poole is now a SS, and I'm not sure if Maye stays in the secondary or moves to LB, and there are rumors of Purifoy to WR. We have plenty of room for Hargreaves and 1 of Ramsey/Alexander/Wiggins, who already have better size than Riggs or Brown. I know that's a lot of hypotheticals, but I can see why Muschamp and staff are still recruiting CBs.

Room for 5. We would have had 5 last year if we pulled Tracy Howard. I think it will be 3-5 every year from here on out.
CB - Vernon Hargreaves III
CB - Jalen Ramsey
S - Keanu Neal
S - Nick Washington
DB - Marcell Harris
I am pretty confident that we'll 100% get 1 of Jalen Ramsey or Marcell Harris. I am hoping we can pull both, which would be the absolute best scenario. If we do miss on 1 of those, then I wouldn't be surprised if we turned up the heat on Leon MacQuay III or one of the UGA DB's... even Mackensie Alexander (though, I really doubt that).
The DB recruiting to UF is by far the easiest of positions to recruit. It more or less recruits itself at his point. And with Muschamp having played safety in college, it only amplifies to kids who want to play for a defensive minded coach. Even before this new regime, Florida's been sending DB's to the NFL since Bernie Parrish, Don Fleming and Hagood Clarke (early-mid 60's, and it was the AFL) and A LOT more recently - Lito Sheppard, Marquand Manuel, Reggie Nelson, Keiwan Ratliff, Joe Haden... + about 12 other DB's taken by the NFL in the last 10 years.
DB's are our bread and butter. We will always stack up on them.

Are you sure Maye is going to LB? Is him and Ledbetter being redshirted or what? Getting Hargreaves and possibly Ramsey at corner as well as Washington who might end up a corner looks like an absolute stellar group of CBs to me.
Next year I almost wouldn't be surprised if say Watkins broke out at the end of the season and tested the waters of the NFL, more than likely may not happen but it's always a possibility. If Purifoy goes to offense and Roberson leaves next year all the corner spots are up for grabs for the incoming guys. At any rate I'm just thrilled to see the secondary depth for several more years that we have

Purifoy is not leaving the defense the coaches love him. Poole was moved to SS to get him on the field faster he might be constrained next year. May is 5'11 203 he better be staying at safety. That being said there is room for another corner that is why they are recruiting one. The team plays a lot of dime and nickle when people are not in a 2 back set so a lot of DB's are needed.

Maye is one of my favorite 2012 recruits, but with the move of Poole to SS, I'm just trying to figure out where he ends up. He looks bigger than 203 now. He's seen some time on STs. Anyway, I'm hoping Ramsey flips soon.

not sure Pooles move is permanent he will probably get looks at both eventually. Maye is a safety could play in the box in nickle if needed. I dont think Ramsey flips anytime soon. I think he is visiting Bama this weekend then back to Florida for the LSU game. The deal with USC recruits is they are allowed to visit other schools as long as USC gets the last visit. So if he flips it will be at the end probably.

Lots of questions in the secondary going forward. Evans graduates and there is always a chance Elam leaves early, which means we would have to replace both safeties. Gorman and Saunders are both really "tweeners" without a definite safety position, no one knows what position Poole lands at, and we haven't seen Maye or Ledbetter yet. I don't see Purifoy at receiver (tackles too well on the other side of the ball), but if Roberson continues to improve I think he has the ideal size and skill set to be an early entry candidate. Watkins could easily wind up at free safety because he has worked there in the past and seems to have the range and ball skills.

I can see Purifoy moving to Elam's position next season. He's the best tackler and most physical of our current CBs. I think Poole will be a CB. He's listed at safety, but I've only seen him in man coverage in dime packages. I think Showers is Evans' primary backup and he will probably take over there. He's got Reggie Nelson speed and a fairly muscular build.
Love the guys we have and hope we get Ramsey or Alexander. I assume we're good with Harris, but I'd take McQuay in a heartbeat if Harris isn't decisive. I don't know why we cooled on him.

So he's a good enough one-on-one defender to play corner, but is he too good a defender to play behind Roberson and Watkins? Who starts at SS next season?
Call me crazy, but wasn't Purifoy the one missing his tackles?

I am really not sure but they would move Watkins to safety before Purifoy. But when you look at the players available next year I am not to worried about it.
CB

Purifoy
Brown
Bailey
Riggs
Watkins
S
Saunders
Gorman
Showers
Ledbetter
Maye
Poole
(Watkins & Riggs have played safety at times as well)
Freshmen
VH3
Neal
Washington
hopefully add Harris and Ramsey/Wiggins

After Roberson and Watkins leave, I think VHIII and whoever we take this year will be starting, unless we move Poole back to CB. I think Riggs and Purifoy are good at nickel, dime, but make too many mistakes to be on the field all the time. Haven't seen any of bailey yet, but he's a fast one, possibly a project though??

Bailey is a project if you haven't noticed Purifoy plays a ton because of our nickle and dime packages. They will probably crosstrain Poole. I hope our fans are watching other teams this weekend and realize how good the Gator secondary has played this year. WR's have been open a handful of times this year, almost everything has been contested. The corners have let some short passes be completed but that was by defensive play calling.

I am watching how good our whole d plays as a whole. I think I am excited to see 3 linebackers playing against LSU for most of the game. There are gonna be some big hits.

Bostic and Jenkins have to be more physical than they were last year vs LSU & Bama. I dont worry about Morrison being physical. They also have to play better on outside runs.

Yeah but with Ball, Kitchens, Morrison, Taylor and possibly Jenkins, we have way more depth on the outside to protect against the outside runs... And also more physicality for sure...throw in McCray and Fowler at buck, and that's pretty solid outside play

We have been getting worked on outside runs this year. CWM said they were going to clean that up on the by week so hopefully the DB's and LB's get it together because if we can make LSU one dimensional I like our chances.

But compare our getting worked on outside runs last year to this year, I think we made considerable strides. Still not perfect I agree, but our 2nd half d looks so much more impressive seeing how the teams we beat are playing... And Kentucky can run... I think we did well with our nickel out there most of the time

Yea, but you'd have to admit it was a pretty bad half and for those of us that don't see practice it's hard to see how he would be our best tackling DB. Gotta believe there are better options at safety.

well according to the coaches he is the best tackling corner and proves it in practice. But I don't see him playing safety

Back to Jalen Ramsey.....is it safe to assume the above-average probability that Ramsey doesn't go to USC? With those odds increased, especially in favor of UF, what hindrance is there to him not going to UF? I know UT is not in the mix, but haven't heard any other schools high on his list aside from USC & UF

He went to Bama last weekend. He will probably go to Vandy sometime this year. Right now he is still 100 percent committed to USC.

Agree with what you've posted for the most part on the overall subject.... but there is a difference between a good tackling corner and good tackling safety, which I'm sure you're aware of.
Other than that, I just don't see Purifoy being moved to safety... could be wrong, though.
