What was Gilmore told?

In the Gainesville Sun there was an article on DT Gilmore. He was told that Floyd is leaving early (No surprise) and some interior linemen are not good enough to stay. Do you have any idea who these players are? just curious!

rserina, very good point. You are 100 right. dieagaotr, it is in the Zach Abolverdi blog on Gilmore. Losing Hunter and Floyd will hurt next year. We need some great DT's.

We took SEVEN DL last class. If you were a 2013 recruit wouldn't you ask staff how they expect you to fit the roster with so many DL already on board? Of course, no shame in asking. There's no shame in the staff talking about that with a recruit either- they have to. All staffs do because you know most players ask about it(depth chart).

With all due respect and hopes for great success to Alex McCallister, Brian Cox, and perhaps one of Quinteze/Jafar we might not actually have added seven DL to our roster- and I believe we actually needed most of those guys to work out in order to have replenished our DL roster. So, if the staff let on something to the effect of "yes, we took seven DL commits last class but here's where we're 'really' at with our DL roster", then so be it. I doubt they named players personally but that kind of sizing-up-the-roster for recruits happens at every program- it has to. I imagine quite often there's some embellishing done by staffs all over the country to paint a picture that a recruit will appreciate. And on the other side there are staffs competing for a recruit doing the same with their roster, while making suggestions to a recruit that another staff isn't being up front and honest(negative recruiting). It has to happen and certainly is part of the side of recruiting we never see.

It just so happens in this case a recruit mentioned that it happened. But those kind of frank discussions have to happen at every program and certainly are initiated at the request of a recruit who wants to talk about the depth chart.

One would assume that Bullard and Fowler will work out. DT's should never be graded in the first year as to if they will work out. They usually need to either gain or lose weight and gain strength.

The article does say that. I have a feeling its more atitude and work ethic than ability. CWM has mention on several occasions that some of the freshmen need to step it up in practice. One player has complained a little bit about being redshirted. And we all knew Floyd was going pro. Just like we know Elam going to the NFL when the season is over.

That's one heck of an assumption. Last I checked, 5'10" box safeties don't go terribly high in the draft. If he closes out the season well, then maybe, but as of now he doesn't have any distinguishable traits that would inch him toward the top of the draft and thus legitimate an early departure.

There were I think two safeties under 6'0" drafted last year, neither before the third round, and it is generous listing Elam at 5'10". Pretty much the same thing holds true each year. Now, that doesn't mean Elam won't be a high pick, but he needs to have an unbelievably good season because I don't expect him to get high combine grades.

He was on Todds top 32 players a week ago a few players moved into the group and knocked him out. Kiper has him as the 2nd best jr safety

And those lists by and large have no relation to what he will hear from pro personnel people three months from now and that (hopefully) will be the basis upon which he makes his decision.

We will just have to wait until it plays out. This is why I believe Powells injury will help us in the long run.

That and talking to his brothers agent. It is going to be interesting replacing Elam & Evans in the back a lot of good players at safety on the roster.

Anyway back to Gilmore, another story quoted that they (might not) be good enough . Isn't that the case with all recruits?

I feel for these guys that have the heart, the "it" between the ears, and the determination to make it in the NFL but are not considered capable because of a a couple inches height and few pounds in weight. Cruel world I guess.

These are interesting comments. Gilmore is an important recruit for LSU this year as he appears to be the highest rated DT that we have a realistic chance of signing.

Gilmore would have a good shot at early playing time behind Jacobs. Q.Williams is a true freshman this year and has yet to make an impact.

The only reason I mentioned taking seven DL is because obviously depth chart came up during the official- it had to. So for coaches to talk candidly and honestly about a subject that was surely to come up is no surprise, no breach of trust. Happens for every astute recruit- they bring it up or the staff they are visiting raises it. Depth chart is simply is part of recruiting for every recruit.

We took seven DL, but only Mann, Jacobs and Phillips were DTs. Mann is now at OG, Jacobs will be gone after the 2013 season and Phillips didn't enroll. We need DTs badly.

What is the big deal about players not working out. It happens all the time and I am sure that there are recruits who are better than some our defensive line men now. Just like there were last year.
