Pages are stopping loading while waiting for something called tags.contextweb.com? Seems like something changed about a week ago that is negatively affecting the GC site.

On the message board tonite, I'm seeing mostly headings and blank pages. If I refresh a lot I can get it to load. It took me about 7 shots to get into this forum and another 7 shots to view this thread. No problems whatsover on any other sites.

"Other sites" ?? I guess that should be a hint to me?

Contextweb is ads.

This site is always woefully slow without Adblocker because they literally have like 9 ad spots on a page. You have to get adblocker to even remotely come close to making this site usable. It's available for almost all browsers.

We have three ads per page. Let me know if this is still an issue and I'll report it. Thanks!

Orange, I meant the front/story pages which are our primary pages. You can turn them off with adblock, works easy. Try it.

I've reported this problem to the contextweb people, expect to hear from them soon.

Apologies,
Ray

I just put contextweb in my host file as 127.0.0.1. That way, it does not even take up bandwidth from my machine.

Sometimes directing a site to localhost with your hosts file will end up taking just as long. Adblock Plus prevents the scripts from loading/executing so no bandwidth is taken there, either.

Plus there is Adblock plus for Firefox and Chrome, so there is really no excuse unless you are stuck with IE

I think that there's a solution for IE, too.

Similar things just started happening. Pages lockup when loading. No amount of refreshing or reloading will make pages load. I had to shut down Safari, clean out everything and restart to get the homepage to load. Worked after that but its a pain.
