Rowdy Reptiles have formed a student organization to "take things to the next level"...

Great Idea I think. We are coming after you Duke. Be ready!!!!

It is a good idea. Wish it happened a decade ago. Better late than never.

Now if the students could fill that section up again...

Duke? So u want to hand out cheer sheets to coordinate all your efforts? You want to have no social skills? Duke is not what you should aspire to that is a very low level. Heck even missou does a much better job then duke in rattling opponents.

Aim high not low.

Hey 'pac..hate to break it to you but I guarantee they are going to do Duke'ish type things (maybe even cheer sheets). The guy who is leading it is legit though. It's gonna get better and that's all that matters.

I would have laughed in the face of anyone attempting to hand me a cheer sheet.

So explain to me how the guy leading it is "legit"?

While I appreciate the effort for the Men's program, I do wish they would also try to do the same for the Women's program. It would be so great to see support to grow for both teams.

I agree with Tupac on this one.

"Cheer sheets? Cheer sheets? We don't need no stinkin' cheer sheet!"

What they need to do is to go back to the "camp out" version of priority for the Rowdy section. That is the way to get rabid student fans down low. The RR section has been tame lately. I suspect that is because the system in place is easy to "game".

Jake (a.k.a. the rowdy town mayor) is one of the best things to happen to Gator Basketball. Read Patric Young's tweets, the players genuinely appreciate the Rowdies and everything he does. If the players like it and it increases interest in the basketball program then it's a good thing.

Sounds like a good step. I'd like to see them get the Rowdies even more rabid, and then focus on the lower section all around. Our fans seated behind the goals are among the least distracting toward free-throw shooters I've seen.

The biggest thing that could happen would be to just get the student body at large more energized. There should never be all those empty rows in the top section.

Really?

I sit there and I was singled out in an Alligator article for my "low class" taunting of Douglas Edwards.

He missed both FT's, BTW.

I will give the whole story if asked.

Yes, really.
I attend a lot of the home games so I have a good idea of the scenario. Usually a handful of fans behind the hoop give it their all--and I'm sure you're one of the few--but by and large, they sit and watch. Unlike other places I see on TV, in which the end sections are organized and can produce weird, orchestrated movements that could be very distracting.

Whether you think it's dorky or not, at least their trying to be good fans. The football fans could probably learn a thing or two from this group.

any group of students who want to amp it up to support the gators get my love, don't care how they go about it. some of you are just too cool.

I love the Rowdies! I've changed my seat a number of times over the years, but always make sure I sit on the opposite side so I can watch them. Can't wait to see the new stuff!

Good. With the way Muschamp is running our football program, we are about to become a basketball school /troll

I would have no problem with cheer sheets if that's what it takes. To be as intense of a fan section as Duke, Cuse, Uk would be nothing short of great in my opinion. I think this is a excellent move.

Translation: I would prefer to be a bunch of copycat losers than be original and better. When you want mediocrity what do u think you are going to get. Cheer sheet? Why not just Chant we are a bunch of losers.

Spot on. Now if everyone just learned that then this would be a much better place.

For some reason, not much from the west end fans. East fans get into it.

Tupac, "cheer sheets" were being handed out at the O'Dome way back in 1980 when I was a student. Duke's student fans didn't get recognition as a group until at least the mid-80's. So, UF doesn't look like the copycat to me...

I'm for ANYTHING to improve the overall atmosphere of the games. What we need to do next is find a way to fill the top section - boys and girls clubs, family discounts - whatever it takes to get the Donovan Dome bumpin

I don't get the negative nellies on here. Some young person(s) is spending considerable time and effort to rally support for our basketball team among his/her fellow students. Why can't the rest of us just support their efforts instead of ripping into what methods some of us ASSume they are going to use? Seems counterproductive to me. If you've got a suggestion on how they should go about it then go to their facebook page and share it with them. I'm sure they'd welcome the input. Otherwise, STFU.

Sorry but i won't STFU and will continue to
Be critical of any gator organization that aspires to
Be more like duke hoop fans and even
Consider using cheer sheets.

Ok. I'll ask. What's the whole story?

Mr. Edwards had his SAT scores revoked by ETS and suffered freshman year eligibility consequences. You can fill in the blanks on this. I happened to remind him of this transgression in a voice that I am sure that he heard because of where I sit when he went to the line for a FT.

Mr. Edwards was a great hoopster and a very good FT shooter, but he badly clanged his first attempt. After that the whole section started chanting "SAT ... SAT ... SAT" on subsequent FT's.

The Alligator thought that I was dissing him just because he didn't get the SAT score. That was not true. Calling somebody dumb would be uncalled for even though he went to FSU. I was dissing him because he was caught cheating. That is totally different.

I don't get you. I haven't read anything put out by these guys that says they want to be like Duke or mimic Duke or pass out cheer sheets. What if their goal is to be more like the Rowdy Reptiles from 10 years ago? You gonna piss all over that as well? These are just young kids trying to make a difference for their school and the team they love. If you have some great ideas about how they could best support the team that is unique then by all means share it with them (and us). If not then you are just a grumpy old man (attitude wise) that likes to run down the efforts of others to make yourself feel superior. SAD.

And what did Duke ever do to you that has filled you with such venom? Let it go man. It's eating you alive!

They're still down because they lost Moose to the East end. Moose is the key to a good free throw defense.

personally, i love the 'fantastic' cheer. i even say it at home on the couch watching games.

more rowdy the better. to be coordinated in cheers could be a good thing too. but most gator fans are very much into making noise whether it be in the swamp or donovan dome. coordinated stuff might be fun, though, and perhaps effective in basketball. get into the heads of the opposition = good result.
