Dwight Howard will be in a shiny new building in LA, while the Nets will play in the ghetto.
But it's a billion-dollar ghetto....to be sure.

Haven't been to downtown Brooklyn lately have you? A little bit of gentrification going on in Kings County as quiet as its kept.

And by the way the stadium is about 14 blocks from the restaurant most famous in the world for Cheesecake - Juniors. So how ghetto can that be?

The look isn't bad (imo), but that run off sounds terrible. You'd think there would be a containment system to keep the rust from staining everything in the vicinity.

Brooklyn rocks. I'd move there in a heartbeat. I think it's great that the Nets moved there. Now if they can just get the Dodgers to move back.

Nice.

Pre rusted steel to go with their washed up players. Good luck. Will be interesting to hear the post game reports after a rain storm. Knick fans must be laughing their butts off.

About the same distance from Peter Luger's Steak House on Broadway in Brooklyn. Considered by many to be the greatest steakhouse in America.

The journalist that wrote this piece is illiterate in terms of architecture. Cor-ten steel has been around since at least the 1970s and is not the maintenance nightmare this guy seems to think it is. The steel rusts, and quickly, to be sure. And then it essentially stops rusting. So it's durable and long-lasting, and very low-maintenance. The projects cited rusted quickly and stained the walkways, but it sounds like the new arena steel was pre-rusted before construction.

For a project I worked on, we installed a cor-ten steel pedestrian bridge. It rusted over and has never had to be refinished in the 18 years since it's been in, while other bridges have had to be repainted multiple times to arrest the deterioration. Very economical and very sustainable.

Not saying you should like it...taste is an individual matter. But in the hands of a talented designer, it can be quite attractive. It is an innovative look for an arena and relates well to the industrial city it serves.

Better than Berns' aged steaks?

The best american steak I ever had was at Luger's. They only serve porterhouse for steaks so you have to like that cut. Berns is good but the best steak at berns will pale in comparison to the best steak at Lugers. With that said I have ate at Lugers at least 25 times and it is always good but not always great. I would also say the service and atmosphere at the one in Brooklyn is very subpar. I also think that you must get at least a porterhouse for 4 for a chance at a great one. The steak for 2 is never great.

Other pros for Lugers is the bacon app, their steaksauce is by far and away the best and their schalg (whip cream) with their desserts is downright amazing.

Now you know and knowing is half the battle....if you want a report on any other NY steakhouses just ask.

Why in the hell don't they build cars out of Cor-Ten? You wouldn't even have to wash them.

What is your opinion of Wolfgang's on Park Avenue?

What is your opinion of Wolfgang's on Park Avenue?

I am a big fan of wolfgangs. It is essentially another Peter Lugers. I like the service and atmosphere better than Lugers. Although they have other options you go there for the porterhouse. Clearly if you are in midtown it's much more convenient than Lugers.

I think if you want an excellent but lesser known steakhouse with great service try Marc Joseph's. The service is fantastic but expect to have a long meal. They take their time. Plus if you drop some serious $ they will go above and betond. Love going there on an expense acct. everytime they toss in a round of some expensive new drink. Great seafood tower as well.

Avoid- bobby vans subpar all around.

I have also been to Wolfgang's I was wondering your opinion. He was Luger's head waiter for 40 years. The porterhouse was on a par with Luger's but the menu is expanded which I am sure he often wished while at Luger's. The restaurant originally was Vanderbilt's private entrance to his building featuring the Italian tile which today is priceless. Only problem is sound reverberating off the concave tile ceilings can be a bit much. We were there before a big hockey game in the garden and the suits were getting cranked up at the bar before heading over to 8th Avenue. It was loud but it did inject energy into the place. My guest looked particularly lovely in the subdued light and that overcame the noise.
