OK, guys I know this is the baseball thread, but I enjoy ya'll's opinions on this stuff....
Maybe it's after 31 yrs of law enforcement, but the question for me begs to be asked---what did Sandusky have on Paterno and the powers that be @ PSU in their administration for leverage that would keep them from dealing with him from the get-go on this bullsh!t??

it was probably a case of 'we've known each other a long time'...like a family member. i don't know the facts, of course, and i may draw a different conclusion from the data [i usually do], but i think it was something that startled everyone. the one thing i don't get is allow jerry back to use facilities and not be chaperoned around. i wouldn't want to ruin a friend's and comrade's life and would correct all this 'behind the scenes' to not draw attention to the university, etc but the 2nd time it happens you have to get your friend 'help' and intervene [if that means police, etc] so be it. but i bet, that the powers didn't want to be exposed about that 1st time either [painted themselves into the proverbial corner], so they had to continue to keep it all under wraps.

I still wonder why McQuery did nothing to stop it when he admitted to being right there in the locker room when it happened. I have no answer for what you ask, 74, but I just hope it's not because the problem was much more widespread than just Sandusky.

I agree WES. Probably they were not involved in this same issues as Sandusky but he had to know plenty on them to keep'em quite....................
I doubt Sandusky had anything on PSU. PSU and Paterno did it to themselves. They were aware of allegations back in 98. Sandusky was never charged. Perhaps the brass figured it would never amount to anything. They worked out a nice retirement package with Sandusky, which kept him around the program. Once the PSU brass became aware of the incident in 2001, they realized they were screwed if the allegations came to light (negative publicity, etc.). Rather than own up to it at the point, PSU and Paterno decided to ignore it and allow Sandusky to remain around the program. From this point on, they had tied themselves to Sandusky. If he got caught, they got caught. If nothing ever came from it, then they could avoid punishment themselves. In every respect, they made the worst decision that they possibly could have made.
