I see on the football, basketball, and recruiting boards that posters sometimes mention that they get recruiting news or other Gator info via Twitter and Facebook. Please give me a few examples of what you follow on Twitter or connect to on Facebook to get this info. Also, maybe some political Twitter feeds and Facebook pages would be helpful.

I think I have a reasonable understanding of Twitter. You follow feeds of people or other entities of interest to you, and that is how you get that info. For Twitter, I think I just need examples of what you follow for Gator, political, and news info.

Facebook......I just don't fully "get" it. I keep reading and hearing about all this massive amount of info received via Facebook on a multitude of subjects. In addition to suggesting some favorite non-personal Facebook pages on the subjects mentioned in the prior paragraph, I would appreciate a bit of knowledge in a general sense about how some of you utilize Facebook.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I have 0 interest in liking anything that's going to spam me in face book.(sorry ray) Nor do I have any interest in stalking players.

To answer the OP's question, here's my stab. These are just basic overviews, nothing really detailed.

Facebook is a social networking site where basically you a) create your own account & profile, and b) connect your account with friends' accounts. This way you can share news and updates about your life, post pictures/videos to share, web links, etc. It works pretty well to keep up with friends who live far away, and it's pretty awesome to reconnect with friends from long ago. I have found friends from 30 years ago... amazing.

Twitter's beauty lies in its simplicity. Where Facebook lets you share everything (words, links, pictures, etc.), Twitter is 140 character status updates called "tweets". You can include links to pictures and web sites. By using "hashtags" in your tweets, such as "#gators", people can easily search Twitter for specific subjects.

If you hover over one of their posts on your feed, there is a small gray arrow at the top left of the post that you can click. If you click on that arrow it gives you the option to unsubscribe from the person. It doesn't unfriend them, it just removes all of their posts from your feed.

This is a good overview, they are both social networking sites but there is one huge difference outside of utility.

Facebook is a "friend" network where you share with your friends (and if you don't watch your privacy settings, you share with friends of friends, and so on...)

Twitter is an open forum to share with everyone. It's not a "friend" network.

I use it to get my news "pushed" to me. If you follow a bunch of people who write for the Gators, then just wait for the news to pop up on your screen.

trust me i am well aware of that option and have used it but low and behold they still show up in my feed.

Thanks to all of you who responded. If anybody has anything else to add, then I look forward to seeing that.

I get most of my news on twitter. For sports I just follow the writers I like. Some good ones :

Matt Hinton
Joe schad
Bob Redman
Thomas Goldkamp
Andy Staples
Stewart Mandel
Rachel George
Only Gators
Dan Rubinstein

These are just college specific. Mostly football. I also follow some coaches but their info honestly sucks and I never follow players or recruits. They post a ton of junk and anything worth reading gets retweeted by some one else I follow anyway.

You can follow me on Twitter, but be warned. I like to go on random Twitter tangents from time to time and I can be a little snarky at times.
