Here's an interesting quote by Grier:
"The 6-foot-3, 185-pound signal quarterback has maintained for a while that he wanted to make an early commitment and recruit others to join him. On top of his list are 2013 wide receivers Marquez North and Demarcus Robinson, both four-star prospects in Scout's 2013 class."

Here's an interesting quote by Grier:
I have mentioned this before about Grier committing this early for us and that it will help recruiting a lot. Especially the offensive players we are looking for. The timing is perfect, especially if he may help in flipping DR again.

He's a four star and ranked about 6th, but hasn't been re-rated since that game where he shredded that other team and all the national single game passing records. I don't know if they will be adding a star to his rating or naming a star after him.
This is also big news on the diversity front. I'm sure he's the first Amish player who ever committed to UF. Will he have to travel by horse and buggy to away games? That could be complicated.

Keller Chryst is from Cali and probably staying on the west coast.
Caleb Henderson is from Virginia.
DJ Gillins is from Jacksonville he threw for both Florida and FSU and neither staff offered him. He is committed to the mighty Texas Tech.

So you only celebrate 5 star recruits? The difference between recruits rated as 4 or 5 stars is really a matter of personal preference. Grier is who the coaches had at the top of our QB board. They're not reaching and you should know to trust this coaching staff. They've earned it.

It's front page news on ESPN home page, not just college football. But I agree, not a big deal to sign a record breaking high school QB this early in the recruiting season. I mean it's just high school. I mean people were rioting outside of Davidson Day and Gainesville. Total PANDEMONIUM!!!! Get over yourself. I am asking a genuine question. Why isn't he a 5 star. Tebow was a 5 star, so was Driskel, so was Floyd....they were all 5 stars for a reason. Grier is not a 5 star for a reason: maybe there is not enough on him yet - maybe evaluators wait until a player's final season before they can do a thorough analysis on him, maybe he needs to put on more weight etc etc. I am am not knocking the kid down...my God!
My point is that if we are all in agreement that the kid is a baller, why are we waiting to rank him as a five star?

I agree 100% but a lot of people are acting like he's gonna come right in and take the 2nd string nod then start as soon as driskel leaves....do u think so as well? I've only seen some video and I know we have a couple guys already at qb on roster. It's gonna be a nice completion at least we know for sure.
I was really scared about the QB position until we got Will Grier. I think he has a great shot at taking over the QB position once Driskel leaves. I believe if anybody beats him out then they are winning the position not getting it by default. I can not say that was true before Grier.

Our coaches have proven already that their ratings are more valid than the star ratings dealt out by recruiting sites. Our coaches scout better than all of the recruiting sites. Case in point, A. Morrison. He may not have come in with 5 stars, but he sure played like a '5 star' this year.
Our coaches have succesfully caused me to not consider star ratings anymore when it comes to Gators recruiting. If we get the players the coaches want...I am completely satisfied and trust their judgment. We had some misses late last year, but what made them misses in my mind was the notion that our coaches wanted certain players that we did not get...it was not about their star rating.
In Christ forever,

That's what I have concluded. I think juniors don't get evaluated enough to get a 5 star rating. Once they go through the camp circuit and the scout services send their people then they will get an official ranking.

Three of those guys played real well in college. A top 3 QB in 2014 is great its much better than what Florida got the last two years.
One reason this commitment is big news is Will Grier will be the talk of the 7 vs 7 circuit in the summer . I am pretty sure he will excel in that situation. This summer Grier's Davidson Day team beat Mallard Creek in a 7 vs 7 tourney. That might not seem like much but Davidson Day has no college prospects at WR or DB while Mallard Creek has Marquez North (top 5 WR in the nation), Brian Walker (offers from UNC Nebraska Auburn..) & Jorain Jordan( Georgia state Hampton Towson).

Johnny Manziel was a three star recruit, and he just one the Heisman as a redshirt Freshman. Would you five star lovers take him as our QB? Who cares about stars? WG looks like a player!
If we had a Sumlin offensive mind a 3 star would be awesome, we have a brilliant defensive mind nothing we have seen on the field shows our offensive coaching to be even average much less good.

I know it's just highlights but he looks to have a much better feel for the game than Jeff does, while his physical talent is obviously nowhere near Driskel's I think depending on how this year plays out we might have an open competition for QB on 2014- Jeff's limitations are mental things and I don't know how much of that is fixable vs. how much is just innate: things like feel and touch can improve certainly but Jeff has always seemed more like an athlete than a QB to me- he reminds me a lot of Vince Young, who also struggled at times early in his career before his coaches just gave up and let him run his own offense (I do think there's a chance Boom does this if we struggle offensively again early this year- he might do what one of his mentor's did in Austin and just let Jeff be Jeff).
You have to admit that Grier looks a lot more natural making progressions as a Jr. than Jeff did as a college sophomore last season.

Yes. Physicality has nothing to do with it (to an extent). He is the QB of the future (hopefully), having him come in early lets him do A LOT of reading.
He probably won't play much his first season... like, maybe games where we blow out lesser teams by the half... other than that, he should be a ghost his freshman year.
Next summer should be interesting... It's going to be Grier vs. the other QB's we got the last couple of years + whoever we decide to recruit for 2015... Next summer is when things start to really matter and change.
This year though, Jeff Driskel won't be unseated... unless he blows it big time, even then, highly unlikely.

I think he did. That was a down year for QBs, plus Driskel's skills set is ideal for a competition like that. He's quick at dropping back, has a quick release, high velocity and excellent accuracy. Unless I'm mistaken, the Elite 11 doesn't put much emphasis on eluding pass rushers.
Don't know much about Grier, except he's throws a nice long ball, has good pocket awareness and needs to gain a lot of weight.

Power Ranking the Top 10 Quarterbacks in the 2014 Recruiting Class
#4. Will Grier, Pro-Style QB
http://cdn.bleacherreport.net/images_root/slides/photos/003/159/181/g_display_image.jpg?1368212616
Height: 6'3''
Weight: 180 pounds
Hometown: Davidson, N.C.
School: Davidson Day School
Ranking: 4-star
Committed to Florida on 12/19/12
Will Grier is not a dual-threat quarterback, but he's elusive for a pocket passer.
He has a strong arm, excellent touch and above-average accuracy. He can be the prototypical pocket-passer, but he also has great agility and athleticism and excels when moving around.
He's the type of quarterback who can bootleg, make a throw on the run or decide to take off and pick up yards with his feet. He also has a feel for pressure and possesses escapability.
Grier doesn't have the pure arm strength or size of the No. 1 quarterback on this list, but he has just as much potential—especially if he bulks up.
