Got email from Comcast, said they had increased speeds in our area. Supposedly it will be even faster when I get my new Docsis 3.0 modem.

This is what $50/mo buys you in a monopolized small town

I recently upgraded from 10/2 to 50/4.
In retrospect it was kind of stupid, because outside of a few torrents I very rarely hit anything near that anyway. I think this realization is what curbed a lot of the speed bravado I used to see frequently.

Hrm more bandwidth, but also drastically more ping, whats up with that I wonder? Time of day? Difference in server queried ?
Interesting

Those bandwidth tests generally ping just once, since it's not necessarily the #s that people like to brag about

InterestingThe recommended server is Jacksonville, but Tallahassee is actually closer!

Getting pretty much what I'm paying for at the moment. I could spend the extra $10/mo and jump it to 35/35, but why?

There are parts of the country where Dial-up is the best they've got. They've got no choice because no phone company finds it worth their while to invest in these areas.

Since original post I've gotten ATT U-Verse instead of BrightHouse so my speeds went from 40/5 to 18/2. What I've found is that I can't tell the difference. Of course saving $100 per month for better TV does make a difference.

guessing at server costs, i'm guessing download speeds are getting irrelevant
..
switching over to attand t TV recently, i'm guessing they're going low power on tv ...maybe increasing internet bandwidth
