View Full Version : Buying a new laptop-Need Advice
I am going to purchase a new laptop in the near future. I do not want to spend the money necessary to purchase a Mac, so I'll be looking in the $600-$700 price range for a PC. I am retired now and basically will be using it for the internet, storing some digital pictures, and using microsoft Word and Excel. We do not due any gaming on the computer, besides the few games my daughter plays on Facebook. I do want the capability to wirelessly watch streaming movies on my TV set. The salesman at Best Buy said that there are now better things than the Roku for this, but I really don't know enough to make an intelligent decision. Any suggestions would be appreciated for a good laptop in the above price range! Thanks.

First, I think given your requirements, you can set your price range in the $350-$500 range.
Second, what "streaming movies" are you talking about? Netflix? Hulu? If so, there are Roku apps for each. You shouldn't need a computer at all. You can use Roku as a streaming media device for downloaded videos but that's a bit more of a process.

an HP, Dell, Sony, Lenovo or Acer in that price range will not disappoint you. :)

I really want to play Age of Empires Online and Star Trek Online.
Also need to get a decent laptop so i can play Elders Scrolls Online when it comes out.

With that price range, you can already have a lot of options for you. You can even go cheaper since you only have simple requirements anyway.
