View Full Version : Can we make sure game threads are updated please....

I've noticed fairly often that those who start game threads don't keep the title updated with the score, quarter, inning, half, etc. Not sure why that isn't enforced on here, as every other board I've ever seen makes sure to enforce basic rules such as this. It's very annoying to try and search through thread pages for the score when the game thread title should simply stay updated.
I don't think this is a nag or an unreasonable request, as it's commonplace on every reputable board. I like coming here and only wish it were easier to stay updated with Gator scores when I'm on my phone and in a hurry. Thanks

Wow......2 months & nearly 2,000 views
Yet not a single moderator chimed in (negatively or positively) on this topic. What exactly is the purpose for the Gator "Aid" Station? In the "Help and Information" subsection no less. It's extremely frustrating the way this board is run. This website has so much potential and could be awesome, yet it's almost like the people running it just don't care to make it any better. Sad really......

When I'm handling live coverage for us, I'm pretty careful about posting the score very often in the thread (for baseball every half-inning). Between the live coverage, actually keeping notes and keeping track of the game, updating the title of the thread isn't high on my list of priorities.

While I appreciate the response, I don't think I've ever noticed you even start a baseball game thread. It's usually gatorgal or someone else like that.
I've just never seen a sports board not keep in-game thread titles updated with the score. For as slow as this site is, it's very annoying to have to click on the thread and read thru it looking for the score when it could just as easily be updated in the title as well. That's how thread titles are supposed to work. I'd much rather come here to get Gator scores than going to an LSU board to get Gator scores......that's pretty much what it comes down to.

Yeah, I realized after I posted you were talking about the free boards. Carry on.

I thought this was covered already on the baseball board. I don't know how football threads are, but I know that the basketball threads titles are not kept up to date with the scores. There have been a diverse view on how people prefer the threads (honestly, most don't seem to care one way or the other). But it's clear that if you do it one way you're going to disappoint some folks, and if you do it another way you're going to disappoint some folks.
In the rare occasion when I do a game thread, I prefer to update the subject line with the score because some people will be seeing that as a topic in a forum view and seeing a close game may entice somebody to want to check it out. Gal does not update the subject line, and a few posters have expressed their appreciation for it. I don't think there's a way to make everybody happy on this note.

Thanks for the response Wes, but I didn't quite follow your second paragraph. Why exactly would someone not want the score updated in the thread title?
I've just never heard of it not happening and it's common practice everywhere else. When I'm on my phone, on the road, not around wifi, on my slow 3g with spotty service.....it just makes sense to be able to check the score by looking at the thread title and not having to actually open up the thread itself and dig around for a page or two. Basketball games of course cannot stay completely updated with 100% accuracy at every single moment.....but they should stay somewhat updated as well. Again, I'd rather come here to check on Gator scores I am unable to watch/listen to rather than anywhere else. I really don't think this should even be an issue.....it should simply be common practice and this thread I have started shouldn't even exist or take up any unnecessary space.

Some folks read the thread like it's a tape-delay account of what has gone on, and they prefer not to have too much information revealed in the title about what has happened up to any given point.
Not always as current, but if you're looking for a score as a starting point or even exclusively you may also consider: http://www.d1baseball.com/daily/today.htm for baseball.

Completely agree with swg, here. Doesn't seem like too hard of a fix. Thanks for everything else though mods

Sounds doable. We can assign a mod to update the game thread title on SG after a qtr. with the score.

Well why can't we make this happen? You're an admin....get onto people! lol
Seriously though, I would love to frequent this site more often. It's pretty ridiculous that I have to go to a rivals's website to check up on Gator scores. I'd love to spend more time here on GC, but it's simple little things such as this that should be enforced & taken care of.....this shouldn't still be an issue.
Make it a rule that whoever starts game threads (for all sports) keeps said game threads updated in the thread title from start to finish. This shouldn't be something an admin has to update or stay on top of. This is something very simple, very basic, in which all websites go by.
No point in losing GC viewers/members/posters to silly things such as this all b/c 1 or 2 members can't watch a game and don't want the score to be spoiled. So they come on here and read thru a game thread as a way of watching the game?? Really?
