Winter Haven's Lane Commits To Florida

"Among all his choices, national champions Alabama being one of them,Lane went with the University of Florida. He was also being recruited by Rutgers, South Carolina and Florida State."

"Another thing I liked about the Gators is having that behind your name and on your degree."

http://www.polkpreps.com/news/article/29657/lane-picks-florida-over-alabama/

A good article on the Gators' first commitment for 2013. And he's from Polk County, Florida. :)

Yeah, I know. I gotta keep up with Muschamp! And the guy's fast! Otherwise I'll get a PM from the Big Shots who run GC and it will just say, "You're Fired!"

Well, since I'm a volunteer of my time on here it's not like I would lose any food money or anything, but I'd probably cry a lot!

Of the four recruiting services listed, does one of them seem to have more credibility or a better track record than the others? Thanks again!

I did a pretty in-depth statistical analysis type study on this a few years ago, and the basic answer to the question is no. There's maybe a one-recruit difference in terms of how the services did each year out of the 150, 250 or 300 they rank. It's almost impossible to tell, really.

But from 2006-2008, Rivals had a slight edge over Scout and ESPN.

BTW, I'm working on updating the rankings again today. So stay tuned!

That ranking was last updated on April 17, before the spring game. I just popped in the updated rankings and he's back on it. I'll have a story recapping the update on the site tomorrow.

Roderick Johnson re-commits to Florida, adds to Gators' flock
By Andy Hutchins on Dec 9, 9:24p 5

Florida had already had a spectacular recruiting day with the additions of Trenton Brown and Matt Rolin. Then Roderick Johnson rejoined the Florida flock, pushing the Gators' list of commitments to 25 and adding another offensive lineman to a suddenly stacked group.

Johnson announced his commitment to the world on Facebook and Twitter, and it's a legitimate commitment, once more putting Johnson in line to play for the Gators. Johnson is a three-star lineman with some great size at 6'5" and 315 pounds, and he could have a future anywhere inside on either offense or defense for Florida.

Johnson had previously decommitted from Florida in August, but it seems likely that this commitment will stick: Johnson was the one doing the calling this time around, and may have talked his way back into Florida's class instead of being talked back into it.

Johnson brings the tally of new offensive linemen Florida will have available for the 2013 season to five — transfers Max Garcia and Tyler Moore, JUCO mammoth Trenton Brown, and high school recruits Octavius Jackson, Cameron Dillard, and Johnson will all arrive either in the spring or summer. That's a lot of bulk and depth for a unit that began 2012 as an enigma and ended it as the Gators' strength on offense.

I just watched Rod Johnson's highlights on hudl.com, and he's tremendously quick for 315lbs. His defensive highlights were just as impressive as his OL highlights. He's a bit tall for an interior DL, but looks strong enough and quick enough to play there if need be.

Call in sick to work. Tell your boss you’ve got signing day fever.

As always, GatorCountry.com has your recruiting remedy and we’ve added several new ingredients to make this year’s signing day coverage a cure all for all Florida Gators football recruiting fans.

Because Will Muschamp and his staff have assembled what should be one of the top — if not THE top — signing classes in the country, GatorCountry.com has assembled the signing day coverage to match. The coaches have stepped up their game this year and so have we.

That said, GatorCountry.com has put together a team of analysts that will provide fans with a blow-by-blow account of all the action as National Letter of Intent faxes come through the UF offices. We’ll give up-to-the-second updates, break down where each prospect projects to fit on the team and talk about each player’s skills — complete with highlight videos and interviews with the newest Gators.

I will tell you that it is low tech compared to ESPN . So?
The information is and was SUPERB.
I don't need to watch some national bs recruiting show with fluff pieces and inaccurate reporting.
CONTENT was the best. I salute them for doing it.

technical glitches did make it diffiuclt to watch and not want to just give up on watching.

info from Gators about our new signees and the excitement of NSD kept me coming back.

for our NSD party we had two large screen TV's ---one for GCTV the other for ESPNU coverage...

The ESPNU coverage is getting more and more nauseating with their over hype of #1 recruit overall and their hyping NSD commitments as if they are more important than early signings and early commits in general.
