Mike Davis who? ;)
This kid is the RB I wanted the most from what I've researched next year. Sure, Taylor is an obvious one, Bryant etc. But this guy is a superb way to open the class!

But the numbers I found are: 5' 7'', 207lbs, 4.48 for 40.

Adam's not small, he's short. I like how those short guys like Maurice Jones Drew can get lost coming across the line of scrimmage behind those big ugly lineman blocking and the next thing you know when the defense finds them, they're at least 5 yards down the field.

I actually think a bruiser like they having one less season of mileage on him is not a bad thing. I'm not concerned at all about him missing his junior season.

One of the best parts of this is that other RBs who are considering being a part of this class can not afford to screw around with the coaches. We will take one or two more. Don't know how the ratings will come out for him, but he was looking like one of our top three picks, along with Bryant and Taylor. I think he's the fastest guy on our board, assume he regains all his speed. It was not a ligament injury, so I assume he will have a full recovery.

I think we take three in this class after getting only one for 2012. I'd love to get two out of Bryant, Taylor and Henry. Taurean Folston is another good prospect in-state. There are also some very good out of state RBs interested in UF.

On Adam Lane
"Talented RB prospect who ran for 1,000 yards on just 80 carries as a sophomore in 2010. His brother (DJ Jefferson) plays at Rutgers."
Wow! That is 12.5 yards per carry. That must be higher yardage per carry than any running back in the country, and that was only his sophomore year.

Something has to give...If 2 or 3 of these other verbals come through before Taylor, UF might have to pass on him.
Gators are also recruiting other RB's in Florida. Greg Bryant (Delray Beach, Fla./American Heritage), Ryan Green (St. Petersburg, Fla./St. Pete Catholic), Kelvin Taylor (Belle Glades, Fla./Glades Day) and Tarean Folston (Cocoa, Fla./Cocoa).

Limey: Do you think that's just too many big name recruits in the same class at the same position. They would all want to play and not compete for a few touches a game? I could see that, i just feel/hope that we get those three and we could certainly use the depth at that position, giving that we will only sign one this year.

That's it in a nutshell - too much quality to split the limelight 3 ways even with a thin depth chart going into next year.
Let's not forget Mr Jones arriving this year could be a feature back too.
Wouldn't it be something for him and Lane to be our own version of McFadden/Jones? :) Not saying that's what will happen of course...

It's a long way to 2013 signing day for RB's. Last year at this time we were all excited about Mike Davis committing. Now see where we are. This year's RB chase will be filled with many twists and turns for all gator recruitnicks. Henry, Bryant, Taylor, Allen. Before this thing is over it is going to be a soap opera my friends. Be excited about Lane, yes. I think he'll stick. Seems like a fine young man and great talent. But there is a lot of activity to happen yet. Should be both fun and gut-wrenching. The good thing is this: There are only two RB slots left and we have many candidates interested. I bet there is some angst in the recruiting world tonight in the hearts of wanna-be gator running backs who want to play the visit game. They better let their intentions be known quickly or the RB train will soon be leaving the station...without them. Coach Muschamp probably is determined not to have another Davis drama. Lay the ego down and commit young man. You may not have another shot...Just my two cents.

Don't read "too much" into his bench although it is impressive. But, when he is that short he also has shorter arms which make for a shorter distance for him to lift the weights away from his chest.

Impressive nonetheless. If legit, he'll step on campus with one of the biggest bench presses on the team, bench press being much exaggerated generally.

True, but he's also much, much lighter than 95% of the guys in the 400+ club. And therefore has less muscle mass to lift the weight. So the two factors basically offset one another. The bottom line is, anybody of any size that can push that kind of weight in HS is a beast.

Read the thread Leaf started about players decommitting. It's not really that frequent, only 14% of all players change their commitment. And FYI, Davis did not commit quite this early. Matt Jones was the first and he committed exactly one year ago. Rumor have been going around since this summer that Lane was leaning to UF. Davis was a decommitment waiting to happen.

Adam Lane is a huge start for the next class, he will be something special. He reminds me of a Ray Rice type runner, him being short is not at all a disadvantage. He may be able to put on about 15 more lbs of muscle. His build is very good for a dynamic runner up the gut of a defense. This kid has been ready to be a Gator for along time and mom and pops are on board as well. Lane will be a key to the success to this class. I think Lane committing will force some of the other Rb's in this class that want to be Gators to pull the trigger and commit to lock up there spot. I think Muschamp was fired up after the Davis fiasco. He likes to lock up the primary players at Skill positions early on in the process like they did at Texas.

Anywhere from 5'8" to 5'11" is pretty much standard. Anyone taller than six feet is going to have difficulty getting to an ideal low pad level, meaning they'll run more upright and take more and harder hits, it's also more likely that they'll have the ball stripped.
That's not to say that tall runners can't exist in the NFL. AD Peterson is 6'1" 220 and I think we can all agree that he's pretty good. But he does run more upright than most other NFL backs, has had his problems with fumbling, and has been more and more nicked up the past few years.

I don't think the fumbling issue had anything to do with his height and he was not all that nicked up until this year when he got injured and should have been shut down.

I thought he had had a nagging ankle injury either last year (2010) or the year before. The knee injury this year was definitely a function of playing while hurt as opposed to running style.

I think the ankle was just this year which led to the knee. I dont remember him missing time the previous year. But, my mind could be protecting myself from those awful memories of Favre year 2.

He got injured against the Redskins last year in Week 12 (only had 1 carry) and they ended up sitting him Week 15 against the Bears. It was a right ankle injury. He was pretty ineffective from Week 12 on (34 yards against the Redskins, 26 against the Giants, 31 against the Lions) not counting a 100 yard day against Buffalo. So yeah, you're probably just blocking that out.

Oh yeah, I had already checked out on the season by then. It was rough, either way, I dont think his height has really been the cause of any injuries or issues and he is certainly one of the top guys in the league.
Back to the topic though, it is rare for taller RBs to succeed, AD is one of the exceptions.

Winter Haven's Lane Commits to Florida
"Among all his choices, national champions Alabama being one of them, Lane went with the University of Florida. He was also being recruited by South Florida, Rutgers, South Carolina and Florida State."
On Saturday, the rising senior committed to play of the Gators in 2013. He is the first recruit to commit from that class."
"Another thing I liked about the Gators is having that behind your name and on your degree."

Lane is not even close to Ray Rice. The tape I looked at was , I think average at best. We must go after more than Lane. Just did not have that wow factor I wanted to see. Of course nither did Emmit. Sure hope I am very wrong here.

Yes, but those were his Sophomore year highlights. Before his broke his leg during his Jr year, he ran for 300+ yards and 5 TDs. He isn't getting a whole lot of fanfare because he didn't play his junior year, which didn't allow the recruiting services to rank him.

Dude you lost ALL credibility by saying Emmitt's high school high lights did not wow you. Not sure how you got your hands on them. But you have zero clue if E. Smith did not look good to you as a high school player. He was amazing in high school and made highlight real plays every game he played.

I wouldn't use the word significantly but he does edge out Trent at that stage. With all the training methods, techniques and ect. it isn't that hard to really improve your bench.
I was running a log on the health forum for awhile. Took me about i think 5 months to go from 225 to 315 on the bench. Then i began to cut. If i kept on bulking i think i could of got to 415 1rm in i'd say the next 6 to 8 months. I'm also 30 lbs lighter than he is.
Not trying to take away anything from Adam, very impressive for a guy at his age and size. But i believe as time goes on you'll see more and more guys like this. All it takes is good nutrition and proper training and of course the will and determination to reach that goal.
Just think about when he comes to UF and gets under a even better training and conditioning program. He will become even stronger and better. If he continues to grow and improve. I could see him getting 30+ reps @ 225 at the combine.

Anyone know if Taylor or Lane do much pass blocking? There are lots of kids who can run and put up lots of yardage and TDs in HS, but what usually keeps them from being successful in college is their blocking ability.
Both are built like guys who could be good blockers but I am curious if anyone knows how advanced either of these guys are in blocking at this point.

Lane Runs Wild In 6A-10 Thriller!
"Lane, a Florida commit, played consistently well all game long but went beast mode when his team needed him the most in the fourth. He scored the game-winner with 8:43 left on a 4 yard run that rounded out a 9 play, 80 yard drive. On that drive Lane broke away for runs of 29 and and 26 yards.
He also had and 80 yard TD run in the 1st quarter and a 54 yarder to put Winter Haven in scoring position in the 2nd.
'There's a lot of times I wonder how he does some of the things he does. But he had a heck of a night for us.' - Winter Haven head coach, Charlie Tate."

Great news. Any stats available on Adam for this season? I saw that he had done very well in some jamborees in the preseason. I think it's significant to see how he does down the stretch playing big school programs while Taylor and Henry light it up against small schools and smaller players

Great video. I wonder if Kelvin will be our under center back, while Adam would be our read option back. They run him in the pistol a lot

It was just one year ago today, January 21, 2012, that RB Adam Lane of Winter Haven High School became the First 2013 Commitment to the Florida Gators! :)
As far as I know the young man has never wavered from his commitment.

I think we are getting Polk County's next Travis Henry, minus the children. The guy can flat out play. Love his running style.

Kids aren't always such a bad thing. We got Fred Taylor plus his son who was about a year old when Fred signed for UF, hopefully the best package deal in school history.
