I currently have a Desktop that i got in 2004 that is a Pentium 4, only has an 80 GB Hard Drive, 1 GB of Ram and has Windows XP. I hardly ever use it and i stick to my macbook however the video editing i do, i do on that Tower. Problem is the hard drive space is way to small for all the Gator Games so i need to get more space
I'm thinking about either buying an external hard drive or saving up for a new Desktop Tower only.
Which route should i go with? I'm thinking about getting a Desktop in 300-400 range, something cheap and basic that i can do video editing on and probably some Word/Excel.
Right now im leaning towards the Tower, any recommendations on a good cheap basic tower or an external hard drive?

Wow, you do your editing on a furnace like that? My parents had almost that exact configuration when I was in high school.
IMO, build your own desktop. You can probably do it cheaper and you'll get exactly what you want, though I'd suggest moving up to something a little more substantial than the $300-400 range for HD video editing.

$500 will get you a fine machine from Dell to use for editing.

I plan to look into Dell, just got to save up the $$$ first.

While I agree a new machine would be preferable you can buy a 1TB external hard drive at Wally World for about $125.00. If your current machine does a reasonable job at editing I don't see why buying the external now would not be a good temporary solution. The thing is you could still go on using it when you buy a new system.

Just checked at dell, plenty of nice machines under $499. Good luck.

I have had good experience with Western Digital external drives. I have 12 desktop drives, and 10 of them are WD. The other two are older LaCie drives. Each has crashed, but I was able to salvage the data and get them to work again.
I have 2 portable drives, 1 is WD, 1 is Seagate.
It seems that external HD costs have gone up a lot in the last few months.

Yeah i got one a couple years ago(SeaGate) for $79 and it was a 500gb, looking at prices now they're basically $100 for a 500gb.

Since you already have a mac, go with a hard drive first. You can still use it when you buy a new desktop in the future.

I agree. An external hard drive can really come in handy.
