..from me.
This has happened before on an old monitor. I just ran Microsoft's Security Essentials full virus scan with no problems.
This monitor message box - where requests for matters like language, luminosity, etc are. I have not cued it up and have trouble getting rid of it.
Other than that my Monitor works fine.
Problem is this box is in the middle of my screen and will stay up 5-10 minutes at a time blocking out wherever I am at.
How can I stop it?

I'm just going to take a shot in the dark here but you might try using a restore point to see if somehow a setting has been accidentally changed. Won't hurt anything and you never know sometimes something small can make the difference.

Thanks but...what is a restore point and how might I accomplish that? Thanks for the thoughts.

What kind of an operating system do you have? XP, Vista, Windows 7? Or something else.

Are you sure this message box is not being generated directly by the monitor? Most monitors have a menu button and it almost sounds like that might be what you are seeing.

This could well be what it is. My suggestion was more to eliminate another cause as much as to identify it. I should have asked him if he had performed a power cycle on the monitor itself to see if it would reset.

I have Windows XP
This is the box that comes up...centered up/down/across...with messages for changing - Contrast, language and Luminosity.
No amount of prodding by using the buttons on the bottom of the screen make it go away. It comes and goes as it wishes. Very odd.

Have you performed a hard reset by turning it completely off and waiting a couple of minutes then turning it back on?
I am going to post the instructions for a Restore Point but it really seems to be an issue with the monitor. However computers are strange critters at time and sometimes something that doesn't seem like it will work can.
These instructions are from Microsoft. Scroll down to the If Windows XP does start part then proceed. Just pick a time before the problem appeared. Even if it doesn't solve the issue it is a good thing to know.

What type of monitor is it? It could be that the menu button on the monitor is malfunctioning or stuck.

I doubt the operating system is causing that. You might want to try to turn it off for about 30 minutes (assuming it has battery memory) and try again.
If not that, see if the monitor manufacturer has a firmware update available (not all monitors have a way to manage this but some newer ones do).
