Anyone else get the feeling he may lead us to championships the next two years?

I can't say I do. At this point I believe he may have trouble winning the starting job next year.

Sorry, but I don't. He will be a solid player for us, but I haven't seen anything that makes me believe that he'll be any more than that.

I believe that Rosario and Scottie will split time at the 1 next season.

Scottie will never be the #1 starter here but he is EXACTLY the type of player needed on championship teams. Composed, effective, good D, pass first PG. His brother, Mitchell, on the other hand will be a STAR at UF.

No. Not with the talent we have coming in. Great third guard to have though.

Am I the only one that doesn't understand the thread title? What does the S stand for?

It is impressive what he's done these two years coming straight out of junior year of high school. I think he can run the point in a pinch. He plays great D and plays like a veteran. However not sure he quite has the scoring ability or ability to create opportunities for others to be the full time point.

He and Yeguette are similar in that they are both hustle players and defensive specialists, but it almost becomes 3 on 5 when they are running an offensive set. Because of offensive limitations I think those guys will always be 6th/7th man type players barring injuries which might get them occasional starts... nothing wrong with that though. As someone else pointed out those are the types of players every team needs.

I did last year. This year I wonder if Wilbekin's career path is going more the way of Justin Hamilton.

He has great potential. I think he is much better complement to UF's scoring guards, Boynton, Beal and Rosario, than any one else on the squad. When he and Yeguete are in the game at the same time, UF is a very solid defensive squad. But Wilbekin needs to not come in a game and get two fouls in a minute. Wilbekin needs to improve his offense still.

Nope. I'm lost on that as well.

I'm guessing it's translated as "Scottie 'The PG' Wilbekin". The kid will be, and already is, a fan favorite.

I like Scottie, but he comes in and is not a threat to score. As you saw in the Rutgers game, his defense got burned and his offense in the last three games was one 3 pt. You have to be able to get open or drive the lane and score/dish or your playing time should decrease, not get more. The guards we have coming in with any that choose to remain in school, I don't see Scottie starting. As he matures with another year, gets stronger and faster, Billy let's him shoot more, he will be a valuable reserve at a strong Div. 1 Team. I like student athletes, I feel Scottie is what college sports is all about. I hope he continues to develop and be all he can be. Scottie prove me wrong!

Gator fans should be quite happy if he performs to the level of Hamilton the next 2yrs. He still has a ways to go IMO.

I just want someone that is not 5'7 as my starting guard on an SEC/top 10 national team. If that is the best we can recruit, we will not win championships. Rutgers freshman guards abused us. Hopefully Billy sticks with 6'1 and above in the future.

What's the point of taking a shot at Walker in a thread that isn't even about him? And, for the record, 6'2" Boynton and 6'3" Beal were abused, too.

To the topic of the thread, I really like Wilbekin. He can guard three positions, create off the bounce, score in the lane, takes care of the ball, and distributes it well in the lane. He is a more assertive version of Justin Hamilton.

Yep, on one play their guard split Wilbekin and Walker then blew around KB for a layup.

If Mitchell even makes it to UF he will play behind Hill until Hill leaves for the NBA.

Well, I think:

1. Wilbekin is a key to UF's season. He is however not the type of player that one would think would lead UF no matter where this team goes. Not many people think of Green as leading the UF NCAA tourney championship.

2. Wilbekin is perfectly situated to start two years. Hill is not a ball security PG, so I suspect Donovan works Hill in judiciously next season.

M. Wilbekin or Berry or whomever UF signs in 2014 would be very well positioned if Hill as I suspect shares the PG with Wilbekin in 2013 and then after a big 2014 goes to the NBA.

Of course UF fans should note that Hill is ranked about where Boynton was in recruiting and Boynton has stayed 4 seasons.

Scottie looked shaky early in the game today, but got better and better as the game wore on. Solid performance overall.

He didn't look too good in the first half, but was very good in the second half imo. He picked his spots well, made solid passes, didn't turn it over, and played awesome defense.

I actually view him as a slightly watered-down version of J-Ham... and I mean that not as an insult. I still consider J Ham one of the most gifted defenders in recent program history, and a phenomenal athlete.

Never underestimate a guy like Scottie Wilbekin.

Everyone doubts his offensive ability, but if you recall, when he first showed up on campus, none other than Boynton said: "He's a shooter."

Although he and Yeguete have not been very offensive this far in their careers, don't undersell them, or Prather either, for that matter.

In a Billy D offense, the load is shared around, and Wilbekin is quite capable of contributing offensively. Realize that after practicing with the team for only a couple of days, he came in and scored 8 points against one of the better defensive teams in the nation.

People have questioned his ability to break the press. Well, that wasn't a problem for him whatsoever tonight.
