I just keep my sound off and, as a married male, have well refined internal filters anyway. My selective attention capabilities now run really well on autopilot and I've just have to deal with this vague sense that there is a flashing light that doesn't really bother me.

I agree completely. I will not return if every page brings up audio/video ads on the right hand side of the page. This is horrible, especially on a paid site.

I'm getting that too! It just started for me two days ago. Never had issues with ads before and I do have ad blocker. This one seems to over do it.

I've just been hitting mute when reading GC..

Here is their response, it should be taken care of shortly:

"Just got off phone with mat. He is gonna get it taken care of. My guess is something from their old set up somehow snuck through after the turn of midnight and a new month. Let your users know that this player will not be on the site with audio an this is a tech glitch. "
