Another battlefield thread? Yes!

Why? Because the beta is coming out September 29th.

And please no debating over if it is better than modern warfare or not. It doesn't matter.

I. CANNOT. F**KING. WAIT!!!

I will d/l it on both Xbox and PC, PC will be my main priority though, but I want to play it with my friends who all have Xboxes and PCs that can't run the game at all. LOL.

Well it is now up on xbox market for all to enjoy.

Remember though this a pre release build. The game may be done but this isint the final game. It's a beta not a demo.

Ok I have put roughly 3 hours into the beta, and honestly it has its fair share of bugs. If you play it, you will run into a bug, guaranteed. It would be an epic fail if released as is, but it is a beta and I expect those problems to be cleared up before launch. That said, I would rather talk about the mechanics of it.

First the map they give us, operation metro, has no vehicles as of right now. And the destruction at this point in time is pretty much a non factor, but this is primarily due to the lack of high enough levels to have the big boy explosives. The map plays fast and loose and with the bugs right now the best strategy seems to be just pure chaos. It is kinda like call of duty, but at least your aggression is directed at something. The map has four different sets showcasing a wide range of lighting, and even on xbox looks pretty good. Does it look as good as PC? No. Do I care? Not really, the game still looks really good.

Next on to mechanics. People have complained in the past how they feel like a 50 pound weight is on their backs, as of the beta this is not the case. The impact is pretty minimal though as you still have to stop to shoot. Guns now have insane amount of kick back, more on that later. Prone has been added, which has its pluses and minuses. One big minus is people hiding in the corpses that litter the arena. You can also dive to prone like call of duty, but unlike call of duty you can not immediately shoot out of it, there is about a one second delay which could be deadly to someone trying that strategy.

As for shooting, first off as mentioned earlier INSANE kickback. Honestly to pop people with an assault rifle I had to put it onto single fire, which is how it should be but still. Trying to shoot someone who is far away is nearly impossible standing up. This is good though because of the increased speed it still forces you to play the battlefield way. Choose your position carefully and you will be fine. Also as of right now sniper rifles can be quickscoped. Hopefully this is to be taken away when the game is released as it gives snipers a huge advantage. And lets face it snipers never need an advantage. One last change to weapons, the attackers and the defenders now have different sets of weapons, which is rather annoying.

My experience started out pretty lackluster, three games sub 1 kdr, then a 26-9 and everything from there has been smooth sailing. Of course it helps to know where the glitches are so I can avoid them. A lot of people are upset by some of these minor changes and are QQ-ing about it. Still if you can make the distinction between beta and demo and go in with realistic expectations for a BETA people from both battlefield and call of duty preference should find it at least enjoyable.

More- I am at around 6 hours now, have work to do so must cut it short. Honestly the game feels like battlefield. Including those times where you can just go off and kill seven people on one clip. Interestingly for those who have played before there is no combat excellence ribbon, only combat efficiency. I had a streak of 12 going, received efficiency twice and confused me. Also you can no longer spam spot, which sucks for me cause I was one of THOSE guys.

The game recognizes not only the MVP but second and third place, which is great because maintaining mvp can be quite hard. To this extent it continues part of my love / hate relationship with battlefield. I hate when my team doesn't know what to do, but I love putting the team on my back bursting into the bomb zone killing three guys planting and then defending just long enough to trigger the explosives.

I also see why they released operation metro, it is actually really well designed and I can't wait to play it without the bugs. It took awhile but I have already found a few good strike areas and angles. At first the map seems like a snipers dream, but in the end it can be really really fun.

Also I switched to the M416 rifle in the assault class. More accurate less damage, also allows for three round burst which is actually my preference. Also I think the noob tube isin't working, it doesn't do much (any?) damage and has speed of bullet!

Lastly the ranking has been speed up considerably, probably in an attempt to allow for all weapons to be used.

Played a few hours yesterday on PS3. I'll echo what Eric has said, but man this game is already fun. Can't wait for the full retail release.

This game is awesome on the PC. I d/l'ed it on Xbox, too. Xbox matches were a total sniper campfest. I had to go back to the PC, people were actually playing like a team. I think (no offense to any of you) most of the CoD ADD kid population doesn't realize yet that BF3 is based on teamwork. Not campfest, this isn't the cubscouts, you don't win in Rush by hiding in bushes with snipers, even the attacking team was camping. It was retarded. On PC everyone was going for the objective.

Rush in and of itself is kind of a camping gametype, the real game mode is Conquest. That is pure Battlefield. Jets, vehicles, huge maps.

Also disappointing that they shut down the Caspian Border maps on PC. Idk why they chose Operation Metro for the Beta map anyways, Caspian is a straight up Battlefield map with vehicles and huge battles.

The destruction is a bit disappointing too, things aren't as destructible as BFBC2. Red Faction still has the best destruction engine, IMO.

Battlefield 3 is definitely leaps and bounds above CoD, though. Take a lesson Activision, this is how you do FPS.

Please stop with the bashing of call of duty, it just starts arguments. We should all realize how fortunate we are to have both right? Yelling at people that cod sucks and battlefield is awesome is the video game equivalent of the preacher outside of turlignton yelling god hates gays. Enjoy both for what they are worth, enjoy both because they are both great games.

On another note it is interesting that you think rush is a campfest. One side sure, but the other side camping equates to loosing. Removing the tendency of people and assuming it to be equal, conquest is literally about going to a spot and camping on it.

But this beta is really really fun. It speaks volumes about it considering there is only one map and it ia buggy as he'll.

The overall gameplay is excellent, I just think Rush has too much camping. I always plays Conquest though in BFBC2 and then from BF2 I am used to Conquest, so I am not used to Rush I guess. I do realize the defenders are supposed to camp, and maybe that's why I am not a fan of the gametype. I just can't stand camping.

I kinda enjoy it. Like I use to do rush and conquest 50/50 but I switched over to rush full time just because it seems of more a team effort in pubs.
I also enjoy the feel, camping doesn't bother me when I have multiple routes to go.

Sadly they shut down the Caspian borders servers today. People whole got to play it were very impressed.

Yeah I saw the Caspian servers up a day ago, DICE was giving out passwords to get into them but the servers were always full. I didn't even try to get in one even though I really wanted to, you'd have to sit in the queue for an hour waiting. BTW, I am running the game on Ultra with everything maxed @1680x1050, getting 75-90FPS outside and 90-120 in the subway.

There is also a panel under highlights. If you just scroll around awhile on the home page you should find it.

Also 15 hours played, squads have been fixed, maps are back to glitch city.

I played the demo and thought it was good. Still don't think the graphics and vehicles will keep me playing it more than COD. There's just something about COD, I can't get into BF for long periods of time like I do with COD. BF is a solid game, I want to get it just to have around when you just want to blow something up.
