I am always looking for new artists and new music to listen to. Who really gets your day started right now? What kind of music are you digging right now? If you are like me, my mood determines my music.
Today I am listening to a little of the following:
Ray Lamontagne - Let It Be Me
Adele - Rolling in the Deep
Band of Horses - Blue Beard
Let me know, I am always looking for new stuff, old, current, it doesn't matter.

Mumford and Sons
MGMT
Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros
Arcade Fire
Mavis Staples (new album with Jeff Tweedy)
Matt and Kim
Bear Hands
I like Ray Lamontagne, but they are playing his stuff to death on the local radio station.

Do you listen via Pandora? It's great b/c you get to hear new artists. For example, I have a Colbie Caillat station set on Pandora... so it plays her, along with other artists who sing music similar to her (like Adele, Sarah Bareilles, etc). I've discovered artists like Mat Kearney, Marie Digby, and Katie Voegele... check 'em out!

Yes mam. I have found quite a few new artists that way as well. Was just curious what Gator people were listening to lately and figured it would be something good to discuss.

Seriously Strange get off my Grooveshark account.
Besides the bands already listed I have a pretty strong house addiction listening to Swedish House Mafia just about everyday, Deadmau5 too.
A couple good songs from SHM:
Kidsos which includes the MGMT song as the hook.
Sylvia which is a song originally by Miike Snow.
I also have been listening to Florence + The Machine a bit. Very different.
Check out Kiss With a Fist.
And though I get crap for it Lil Wayne.
And there are plenty of old favorites that are still banging around my playlist.
Less Than Jake
Grateful Dead
Phish
NOFX
H2O
TV on the Radio
Balkan Beat Box
I am a bit all over the place.

I decided to go a little different route than normal the last few days.
-- Parody/comedy music.
Created a Pandora station for "Richard Cheese", which is an artist who re-does famous songs but puts them to a lounge sound. I find it quite comical. For example, currently listening to him sing "Sunday Bloody Sunday" set to a latin lounge beat.
Artists that come up on this station include:
Tenacious D
Cake
Weird Al Yankovic
Warning: adult lyrics are played if you search this.

From the bands you originally mentioned, I'd recommend
Josh Hoge
Averi (anthing off the albums Direction of Motion or Drawn to Revolving Doors)-my favorite band of all time
Edwin McCain (definitely MUCH more beyond his mid 90's single I'll Be)
Gregory Douglass
To answer the question though, the off the radar band I'm listening to Temple Hill (plus classics Foreigner and The Eagles)

I've recently gotten into the world of electronic dance music...in the 2nd half of my 20s...kind of unusual but this stuff can be really good. I'm not talking about the mega superstar DJs like Tiesto, but the lesser known artists.
So far I've listened to a bunch of trance, tech trance, minimal techno and progressive house...I can recommend Markus Schulz and John 00 Fleming if you want to go the trance route. Chris Liebing makes some incredible techno, and a couple of really good house artists would have to include Sander van Doorn and Bart B More. That's pretty much what I'm listening to right now. The EDM world is gi-normous and it's kind of exciting to think I'm just scratching the surface.
It's like discovering rock at such a late age--it's such a vast universe of music with so many subgenres.

For those who like real country music try Elizabeth Cook who is the morning drive time DJ on XM/Sirius Outlaw station. She has two albums out that are just outstanding with a touch of humor thrown in. One song that my wife particularly likes is entitled "Sometimes It Takes Balls To Be A Woman". One that I like is called "Beer For Booty" which goes something like "If you say yes to beer it's no to booty". There are plenty of excellent straight country music including the requisite tear jerkers. It continues to amaze me that talent like this goes largely unnoticed while fast food junk like Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift win awards.

In the late 90s I was into a lot of this stuff, at raves every weekend. But it quickly wore thin and I barely listened to anything electronic for over 10 years. Until this summer when I just started discovering a lot of great music.
I dont like Tiesto but I do like some of the bigger names like Deadmau5, Swedish House Mafia, Kaskade and others. I do like Sander van Doorn and often just put on a Pandora station and let it play.

Something a little darker, I like this:
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/6WCD1eG8RzQ?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/6WCD1eG8RzQ?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
A lot of people in the scene don't like deadmau5, but I think they're elitist snobs. The guy is great. This is progressive house with some electro influence...it's a pretty epic track: <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/MEQMkzjcLEA?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/MEQMkzjcLEA?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

I will be in town that weekend but if the rumors are true and he is headlining Saturday night I wont be there. I will be at the One Night Stand at Masquerade Motel. Ya, I'm not even sure I'm going to go to the actual Ultra Music Festival...I'm more about the pool/beach parties and the after-hours events. The thought of a million little raver kids overdosing on E amidst a sea of sweaty people, grass, and dust isn't too appealing. And each DJ only performs a one hour set! That said, I'll probably still go for at least one day :).

The greatest thing about that Bright Eyes song is that despite some of the most depressing bleak lyrics you could write its so upbeat you just have to sing along.
I also really like their cover of Daniel Johnston's Devil Town. Johnston who is legitimately insane wrote some good stuff.

And now for something completely different. An old time fave mine. You know, I am an old rocker who also appreciates those Humanities classes they made us take at UF our Sophomore Years at the then called- University College.
They made an impression on me.

Saw a band in Nashville in Nov 2008. By far the best we saw during our visit. But they had no CDs but mentioned an upcoming I-tunes album. Thought of that band a couple on months ago and wondered if anything ever happened for them. Found out that they released their first album and are touring nationwide. The woman, Lillie Mae, who is the lead singer was awesome. I just learned she was age 17 in 1988. The bandmates are her older siblings. They have been compared to Dixie Chicks and Sugarland. They have their own distinct sound. Check out Jypsi on Youtube.

I love having Sirius on my Dish Network.
No matter what mood I'm in they got it.
Classic Rock,Outlaw Country, Blues, Reggae, and on and on and on.
I used to have a Sirius unit in my car but whenever I went down to gainesville, as soon as I passed Tally headed East, and all the way until I got to 75, all I got was dead air.
I finally got rid of it.
Btw, to all of you who have the satellite radio magnet antenne on the exterior of your vehicles, take it from a detailer who's seen the scratches from them... cut a small form fitting piece of clear, thin plastic (from a new CD or DVD package wrapping is best), and tape it to the bottom of the magnet and use it to prevent scratches on your paint!
