Mark Samansky passed away last month in Colo.
I found out yesterday from Larry the Cable Guy. Baxter & Mark on WDIZ was the best radio ever. Mark was the funniest man I ever knew. He could also play many instruments like a pro. He left Orlando to take care of his aging mom out in Denver about 15 years ago. Mark produced Larry's first album, made Larry pretty famous. ;)

Very underrated. Somehow, someway Thin Lizzy isn't in the R&R HOF. That is absolutely unacceptable and a slap in the face to a great band.
The live album "Live and Dangerous" should be in the HOF alone. One of the greatest live albums I've heard. I could go on and on. Thin Lizzy is the chit and should be recognized!

So far this summer, I've seen the Thermals, Les Savy Fav, Glenn Hansard, Low, Everest and the Jayhawks. Getting ready for Animal Collective, Guided by Voice, Neko Case, Battles, Das Racist, Fleet Foxes, DJ Shadow, Destroyer, Gang Gang Dance, No Age, TV on the Radio, Cut Copy, Superchunk, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, Deerhunter and about 25 other bands at Pitchfork Music Festival a week from tomorrow.
Just missed Eddie Veder last week doing his Ukelele Songs tour. Heard it was incredible. Glenn Hansard opened for him, the reason he was in town to do that free show last Monday.

Strange, you gonna do any days at Lolla this year?
My sister and some of her friends really want to go but I was not that impressed with the line up. Plus there is a lot of overlap between Lolla and ACL which I already have 3 day passes for.
I was just at the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas and Bonnaroo before that so I am still working my way through acts from both. My favorite unexpected act at EDC was Infected Mushroom, an Israeli psy-trance group that put on an awesome live show.

I'm ready to go back to Lolla, but I'm not inspired by the lineup, plus it's the same weekend as my high school reunion in Panama City. We're going to make it a family visit, since my youngest brother just moved home after being away for 29 years and outside of the US for the last eight. Looks like we'll start driving to Florida on Thursday. My daughter will stay behind for the Friday lineup, then fly down Saturday morning.
Bonnaroo must have been great this year. They always have a good lineup. Too bad I'll never go. I briefly attended college near there and I get nightmarish flashbacks just driving along I-24. I try not to stop for gas between Chattanooga and Nashville.
I'd like to go to Glastonbury one of these days.

The Lolla Friday line up is the only one I am interested in and granted Chicago is a fun enough place that it would be worth coming into town just for that day and then doing other things for the weekend. But I just realized I will probably be out of the country around that time anyway.
As to Roo, yeah, it was exceptional. This was my third year and I think my favorite so far. Arcade Fire was absolutely amazing. I keep saying it was my last one for a while as I really want to do other things with my summer. Next year I am considering Coachella and would love to get to some of the Euro festivals as well.

Saw about 40 live performances since Friday. I'm not listening to any music now. It's like when you go to an all you can eat buffet and try to get more than your money's worth. You end up with indigestion and no appetite for days afterwards. Wish I'd saved room for that final course, TV on the Radio. I heard it was really good, but I had just pigged out on Cut Copy and had to leave three songs into the set. Some of the earlier acts are still resurfacing. It's been two days, but I still taste Superchunk every time I belch. If only I could resurrect the taste of Neko Case, but that was four days ago.

changed it up a bit.....
used to really love duran duran during the early eighties. happy melodic danceable songs...i had two infant sons, but hearing them on mtv (yes, this is when they played music), songs like 'rio' or 'hungry like the wolf' made me dance around the house, cleaning, doing whatever i had to do...even holding babies to soothe them...all three of their earliest albums had same effect. then they quit doing anything i liked. like so many bands do. well, recently, they did a new one, produced by one mark ronson (who also did amy winehouse's best disc, r.i.p.) and mark had been 13 yrs old when 'rio' was big. he challenged them to come up with 'the real follow up to 'rio', and he succeeded. cannot stop listening to this, 'all you need is now', and it brings me back in time. totally enjoying it.

The Killers are headlining Saturday (their only US tour date this year) and The Roots, The Avett Brothers, Iron and wine (meh. my GF really likes his music) The Pixies, Raconteurs and Gogol Bordello are all playing the same day.
It's in november and I am already excited.

Weird that the Killers dont have any other dates this year, they just played the Hard Rock Las Vegas last week.
As for what to do, if you have not seen those acts before imo you should go to the show. Gogol puts on a killer stage show, the Raconteurs are great live and so are the Roots. Never seen the Killers but I imagine they will be good as well. I love football but if all things the same the chances to see another Miami/FSU game are a lot better than seeing that collection of artists.

Leaf, from The Killers website and their tour dates listed they only have mentioned Orlando Calling a a festival in England (not Glastonbury). I saw the Killers while working for the seminole hard rock in hollywood. I never really liked them until i saw them live. They were on their Sam's Town tour and they just blew me away.
I know the killers are working on a new album so they should be doing a tour for that once it comes out next year. I just want to catch them now before their stuff from Hot Fuss and Sam's Town get pushed aside. I thought Day and Age was an AWFUL album so I hope for this show they play a lot stuff from their first 2 albums

I cannot stop listening to "A Down and Dusky Blonde" by God Help the Girl. Stuart Murdoch is continuing to work on the project and every female vocalist he brings in is just flawless.
If nothing else, his "discovery" of Catherine Ireton is a musical milestone, her voice sounds like a hipster Emmylou Harris, but in a good way.

I just bought the second album from Black Country Communion. Good, old fashioned blues based rock. They are a super group with the keyboardist from Dream Theater, the bass player and vocalist is a former member of Deep Purple, the guitarist is simply fantastic and has played with a who's who of musicians and the drummer is the son of Zeppelin drummer John Bonham. Really good stuff.

Like MBV almost as much as GBV. Started listening to both of them around the same time.
Wish I'd known about classic college radio while I had XM. Not sure about the actual programming, but college radio, circa 1980s was the best format ever. Lived in Atlanta from 87 to early 89 and listened to WRAS, GSU's college station almost every waking hour. The only XM station I found that I enjoyed at all was Underground Garage. Got tired of that when I realized how much they replayed the same programs, so we let our subscription expire.
Wish we'd had a real college radio station at UF. I listened to the Underground Pipeline on cable in the early 80s.

Wish we'd had a real college radio station at UF. I listened to the Underground Pipeline on cable in the early 80s.
I just happened to hear G Campbell on the way to the airport this morning.
I moved to Baltimore in '86 so I got the best of WHFS.
Music is so cyclical that shoe gazers will come back in.

Listening to music from 30 years ago. Saturday Morning Flashback on WXRT is featuring the music of 1981, the dawn of MTV. Hearing stuff from U2's Boy, Clash's Sandinista, also the Red Rockers, Lena Lunch, Joe Walsh, Bruce Cockburn. Even heard something from Muddy Waters' final album.
Right now, they're playing Jenny.

Heard this on Little Steven's Underground Garage. Make Out's lead singer Leah Hennessey is David Johansen's (New York Dolls) niece. Can't help it. I'm a perve that likes aggressive girly rock.

No, the original in Tampa. Bummer is ever since Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, the lines there on Sunday mornings just suck. Opening a another location downtown Tampa soon.

So, what's the verdict? Radiohead with Cheerios, or Radiohead with tacos? I usually enjoy my Radiohead with vanilla yogurt, but I'm open to change.

Been listening to a lot of MGMT lately. Every album they make is better than the last, though I haven't heard the brand new one.
Thievery Corporation is essential chill.

I saw mgmt over the summer at sunfest in west palm. They seem to have fallen off rather quickly from the band that had a packed late night show at bonnaroo just a few years ago. There music might be better but it is definitely not as popular.
Thievery is awesome have a couple of their albums and mostly listen to the richest man in Babylon.

As far as new stuff that I have bought recently, the best metal album is 13 from Megadeth. Two others that stand out to me are the first two albums from Black Country Communion. BCC is old school blues rock. They have a lot of history among their members.
