I'm not an autograph hound, but I happened to be near Ricky Carmichael so I gave him my hat. He kept my sharpie but I think its a fair deal. He signed a bunch and was smiling most when he signed for the kids.

These pictures were not taken in 2004 btw, I was digitizing some ordinary camera photos with my digital camera, so I could have them on my hard drive. Unfortunately, those original copies I have no more, and all these pics have the date on them, ROFL.

It'll be pretty easy to guess who the person is in the pictures. ;)

Cools pics. I'm in the process of applying for the Air Force JAG program and have McChord AFB in Tacoma as my #1 choice. Of course that relies on me making the program and getting my first choice. I'd love to spend more time in the Olympics and Cascades

I've been backcountry skiing (snowboard) a decent amount with one of my brothers in Colorado. My avy gear isn't getting much use hear in San Diego.

I'm looking to buy a split board eventually to make the ascent easier. Bootpacking waist deep powder isn't too much fun...

This is Nellie. She is 56 years old and shares the same birthday as my girl. Nellie is by far the oldest living dolphin born in human care. The avg. lifespan is 25-30 yrs. for them.

I climbed Mt. Whitney during a trip from June 25-27. The climb gains 6100 feet of vertical and the route I took requires the use of an ice ax and crampons. Here are some of the pictures (not many pics w/ people since I climbed it solo):

Descending the couloir by glissading. Glissading is where you sit in the snow and slide down the side of the mountain using a mountain axe to control your speed. I forgot to wear snow pants and my butt went numb. Well worth it though.

Nice! That couloir looks like it would be absolutely incredible with about an inch of corn on it! Any idea on what would typically be the best time to ski it in the spring? From the pictures it looks like it's about 2 months past its prime...

Honestly I don't know. Your best bet would be to go to www.whitneyportalstore.com and ask on their forums. Some of the guys on that site are on the mountain 60 to 100+ days.

And yes, it would be ever so sweet to ski/board down the coulier.

Kahne's World of Outlaws teams. Joey Saldana drives the Bud car, young Cody Darrah from Pa. was to drive the 91 Great Clips car, but he and his dad were injured in a street wreck on the way to the big track. A woman ran a red light, his dad was released the next day, but Cody has a shattered tibia and had to go to N.C. for surgery, will be out of racing 9 months.
Tony Stewart also owns 2 WoO teams, drivers are Steve Kinser and Donnie Schatz. These cars are thrilling to watch.

Thanks. Looks like the NW has some beauty of it's own. I am planning (& saving for) trip right now for next summer to Seattle/Vancouver/Whistler/Lake Louise/Glacier National Park.

We saw lots of bears in Yellowstone too, just nothing like the concentrations you see when the salmon run hits in Alaska. We have seen them in Denali too but usually at greater distances and traveling solo. The coastal bears also seem to be bigger than the inland bears. If we get a chance to go back to Brooks Falls, I really want to be able to spend a couple of nights there. On the fly-in trip, you get around 5 hours of time and you can spend half that waiting on bears to get out of the trail or a safe distance from the one pedestrian bridge that has to be crossed between the seaplane landing area and the viewing platforms.

Be aware that there are two distinctly different Alaskan experiences. The cruise thing through the inside passage is nothing like what you get when you fly into Anchorage and branch out from there. Kind of like going to Miami/Ft. Lauderdale/Orlando vs going to St. Augustine/Panama City.

The NW sure does have lots of beauty. We did a trip where I took SWA from DTW to SEA, took the next day Amtrak from Seattle then saw Vancouver/Victoria/Whistler for a few days and came back to WA via Amtrak. The last 3 days spent in WA were for the olympic peninsula and we spent a little bit of time in Seattle, and I wished I had more time! You'll love BC and the area between Vancouver and whistler is totally worth seeing, lots of mountains and forests. There are nice little pulloffs at the side of the road on the route between Whistler and VAN, and great for nature shots. Vancouver is an excellent city as well, lots of stuff there to see and do.

That's really cool you got to see all those bears!

I did see your other pics of Bryce Canyon there, and I went there when I was 12 and man that place was very cool to see as well.

Sleeping Bear Dunes was another neat spot but the pics didn't do it justice. Pictured Rocks was very scenic and we had a rare day of dead calm water to go kayaking that day. We really liked Mackinaw Island, wish we would have had a couple of more days to spend there but that was a whirlwind tour trying to take in as much as we could in a week. Going through the Soo Locks was a good experience for the kids to help them understand how they really work. We were there in June and it was surprisingly cold to us for mid June.

Great pics, Speed, thanks for sharing. You had a great seat for the 500.

I've been a Trevor Bayne fan since he drove the 99 car for MWR in the Nationwide last year. I was shocked when MWR did not renew his contract, but it was the best thing to happen for him in hindsight.

Then Jack steps up and signs the youngster to a contract. puts him in a Nationwide ride and loans him out to the Wood Brothers for some Cup experience. The rest is Nascar history.

I was absolutely giddy watching the kid pull off the win on Sunday. He drove like a seasoned veteran, not a rookie in only his second Cup start. There is a lot less room on the bandwagon now, but I still have one of the better seats.
