We were up in the San Juan Islands in NW Washington, it was a little chilly for some of the time, but was warm for a while also. The water in the Puget Sound is always cold. We had to make Mayzie stop swimming at one point because she was shiverring, but she would have just kept going. May is pretty steady at around 50 pounds now I think, but we haven't weighed her for a few weeks. She turns 1 next week!

EDIT: Mayzie is 54 pounds. I don't think she is growing much more. When her hair is long she looks like she is like 100 pounds because she looks so wide, but it's all fluff.

Hummingbirds! Beautiful! Is that a "crab apple" tree in the background? It looks like the ones I used to see in Gadsden at my relatives' homes! :)

Thanks, vanders and PMC!! :) I wish I could have gotten more shots of the hummingbirds, and closer up shots, too, but I had to snap in a hurry, plus the hummingbirds are ridiculous there. lol The resident there has about 5-7 hummingbird feeders lining her porch, and there are always a ton of hummingbirds around it seems like! lol It's really cool to see when you can.

PMC -- I wondered what kind of tree that was, but I honestly wasn't sure. I didn't get close enough to it to get to check it out closely, but had been curious about it, because the hummingbirds flock to that tree in between visiting the feeders. :)

The CRAZIEST youth hostel I have ever stayed at. It was run by a South African who wouldn't let you stay unless he thought you would party enough. The night we stayed he kicked some people out at 10 p.m. for trying to go to sleep (they were warned before checking in). That day he turned away numerous people even though he had plenty of room.

I feel like I earned a little respect because he said I could come back anytime I wanted (Taylor, the English rugby player on the right and I shut the bar down). Its not easy to outdrink Europeans......

I have been wanting to do a trip like that and hit some of the other resorts too like Whitewater, Big White, Red Mountain, Silver Star, plus the resorts you went to. That would be a 2 or 3 week trip though. None of the resorts are large but I like to try new ones out.


As for the water of the lake, it wasn't greenish but just brighter than what is pictured. I have a giant framed picture that looks very similar to this photo (not mine). As you can see the water looks even brighter. (sorry its so big but I didn't feel like downloading it, resizing, then uploading...)

Blanca lake. Its a mountain lake in the north cascades area. It's no 14er, but it's a nice hike in anyways. The only peak over 14k around here is Mt. Rainier, and that's not your average weekend hiking trip!

No it isn't. I do have plans to climb it in the future though. Even though there are 54 14ers in Colorado, I think Rainier looks more impressive because of the altitude change and the fact there aren't any other tall mountains nearby. It's been two years since I was there. Time to go back.....

I don't know how I got the name FriendlyGator here on Gator Country. I've been a member off and on for about 10 years. My most recent moniker before FriendlyGator used to be Allapattah, but the during the Zook years I got too frustrated and let my membership lapse. When we lost to Mississippi State in 2004, I signed up again the next day to start following what was going to happen. Little did I know I would only have to wait until noon the next day until Zook was canned. When I signed up I think I did a free trial offer for 7 days and didn't realize the user name would be auto-filled. At this point, I've been on here too long to make a change.

Am I friendly?

I guess that depends on what definition you want to use. I am a pretty decent guy and am friendly most of the time. Now if we start using other definitions, my wife might get ticked and not let me out of the house any more. Or she might reduce my allowance back to just $100 a month.

Thanks for linking up the picture. That is the only one I've got of me on the internet. I've got 2 beatiful little girls (actually not so little any more) and maybe I'll try to show them off some day.

The Alapaha River runs underground into the Dead River, and no one knows for sure where it comes up. My Papa (UF grad) lives in Hamilton County, where it goes under, and he took my dad, brother and I a few miles out into the woods and limestone sinkholes to show us where it goes. Very cool stuff.
