My brother is 22 years old, currently a JR at FAU (didn't get into UF due to 40% admission cuts) and has always had strong feelings in wanting to join the military.

He is studying political science, so also would like to go to grad school, but a 3.2 GPA won't warrant much scholarship help. He is also wondering if the military can help in this area also.

Going reserves is probably the most attractive option, with the Air Force the preferred branch.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Here is a website. I hope this helps if not sorry. I have friends that I could contact for more infoif needed. I am in the military now and love it. I wouldn't have it any other way.

An easier way for commissioning as a zero once you graduate is OTS. Their are a number methods to become a zero (officer) to us old USAF guy "raised" by the brown shoe guys. Here is the site for USAF OTS.

The Armed forces in general are offering a multitude of incentives right now, so you have a pick of which branch to suit you.

The USAF gave me two degrees but I stayed on as a Senior NCO and had about a dozen of my troops go officer. Damn fine airman and pretty good zeros. Prior enlisted always made better officers in my book.

Good luck

The AF is making cuts to the entire Active Duty force, but it's hitting the Officers much harder

"The Air Force wants 2,074 officers and 1,633 enlisted airmen to separate voluntarily or to end their terms ahead of schedule"

Cut the old and refill with new, I love the Force. It looks like positions are to be cut in the overman career fields again. Like the article said, emerging career fields are the ones to concentrate on. Technology/Math/Science savvy folks have a leg up in this department. Just scanning the article, it was no surprise alot of these force cuts are coming more frequently in the support side of the house as more base support functions are being outsourced or phased out, especially the communication arena.

Here are some more quals if force cuts don't scare ya:

It looks like if you commit to a four year post graduation service commitment you can enter in a AFRTOC two year program if you qualify.
