ATHENS, Ga. - The spirited run by a pair of Gator freshmen came to an end in the round of 16 at the NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championships on Friday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

Megan Alexander (Dallas, Texas) and Csilla Borsanyi (Hungary) staged upset victories in each round of their respective runs to the round 16, but couldn’t extend their march, as both put up a tough showing but came up short of the third day of play.

Alexander, ranked No. 39 in the nation, dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision to Southern California’s fourth-seeded and fifth-ranked Lindsey Nelson. The loss ended an impressive four-match win streak that included a three-set thriller over 10th-ranked Jenna Long from North Carolina in the NCAA Round of 32.

Borsanyi, ranked No. 58 in the country, pushed UCLA’s 40th-ranked Tracy Lin before falling 6-4, 7-6 (3). The Gator rookie ended her inaugural season with a team-best 29-11 overall singles record.

Both earn All-America honors for their run in the NCAA Singles Championships, marking the 99th and 100th such honors in program history, which has seen a total of 41 Gators, including Alexander and Borsanyi, compile accolades toward the milestone honor.
