Women’s Tennis earns No. 1 seed in SEC Tournament

The University of Florida women’s tennis team will be the No. 1 seed in the Southeastern Conference Tournament that begins Thu., April 21 in Knoxville, Tenn., hosted by the University of Tennessee.

The Gators (22-1, 11-0 SEC) earned one of four first-round byes and will play the winner of the match between eighth-seeded Ole Miss and ninth-seeded South Carolina on Friday at noon at the Barksdale Tennis Stadium.

Florida defeated both Ole Miss and South Carolina 7-0 during the regular-season, posting the win at the Lady Rebels on March 25 and the shutout versus the Gamecocks Saturday afternoon.

Florida has advanced to the final of the SEC Tournament 21 times in the 23-year history of the event, winning 16 titles.

The defending SEC Tournament champion Gators have earned a first-round bye every year and own a 23-0 record in quarterfinal round action, with a 60-7 all-time record in the league’s postseason event.
