ShareUF soccer scores ‘sweet’ 1-0 victory
On a chilly Friday night in Gainesville, something had to break.
The Florida Gators’ soccer team stayed on the attack and finally got a shot by Central Florida goalie Lianne Maldonado to score a 1-0 victory in the second round of the NCAA tournament in front of a crowd of 1,041 at James G. Pressly Stadium.
The No. 2 seeded Gators (19-4-1) advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2008 to play Notre Dame at 1 p.m. Sunday at Pressly Stadium. The Fighting Irish used a pair of second-half goals to rally for a 2-1 win against Wake Forest in Friday’s first game.
