Gymnastics advance to NCAA Super Six
The No. 1 Florida Gators are advancing to the NCAA Super Six after placing second in the NCAA Semifinal II session in Duluth, Ga. Friday night. The Gators earned a 197.650 in The Arena at Gwinnett Center to come up a .025 short behind the University of Alabama. The Crimson Tide notched the top spot with a 197.675 while the University of Arkansas came in third at 197.150.
The Gators’ rotation started off on vault where they earned a 49.575. Freshman Kytra Hunter nailed the highest score for Florida with a 9.975. Hunter shared first place in this event with Georiga’s Kat Ding. The Gators then moved to bars where they scored a 49.450. Sophomore Alaina Johnson earned the Gators’ highest mark on the event with a 9.950. Johnson also shared first place in the event with Ding as well.
Florida then moved to the beam where they scored a 49.350. Hunter and Johnson shared the Gators’ highest score on the event with a 9.900. Florida finished off the night with the floor event earning a 49.275. Hunter scored the highest mark on the event earning first place with a 9.950. Hunter also notched the all-around title with a 39.725.
The NCAA Super Six begins at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon in The Arena at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga.
