The Florida men’s tennis team wrapped up play at the Three Oaks Shootout on Sunday in Fort Myers, Fla., at the Barbara Manzo Tennis Center at Three Oaks Park. It was the final individual event before the Gators begin their dual match season next Saturday, hosting Miami in Gainesville at noon at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex.

“Our team really got a lot out of the event this weekend,” said head coach Bryan Shelton. “I want to thank Pat Guentart for hosting us at Three Oaks Park. We wanted to get three competitive singles and doubles matches this weekend and that is exactly what we got.”

On the final day of the Three Oaks Shootout round-robin tournament, the Gators won two doubles matches and five singles matches. Billy Federhofer and Gordon Watson teamed up to beat N.C. State’s duo of Dave Thomson and Sean Weber, 8-4, while Stephane Piro and Luke Johnson defeated the Wolfpack’s Rafael Paez and Trey Carter, 8-2.

In singles, Florent Diep won in straight sets over 32nd-ranked Juan Spir of Georgia Tech, 6-0, 7-6. Piro, Watson, Federhofer and Mike Alford also picked up singles victories on Sunday.

“Our guys competed well all three days,” Shelton said. “We have to keep working to get better every single day, but we are making progress. We are looking forward to a great week of practice to prepare for Miami at home this coming Saturday.”
