Top-ranked tennis Gators host UCF
The University of Florida women’s tennis team will be back in action on Wednesday to welcome Central Florida to the Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex at 3 p.m.
,
The top-ranked Gators are unbeaten in nine games versus the Knights. Overall, the club is 189-33 against fellow Sunshine Staters, including 11 straight wins.
“Stephanie’s bringing in a team that’s better than the Troy team, so we certainly are going to have to play a little bit better on Wednesday,” said UF coach Roland Thornqvist at Monday’s press conference.
UCF coach Stephanie Nickitas was a successful Gator tennis player herself from 1995-99 and will be inducted into the UF athletic Hall of Fame in April. She was a member of two national championship teams (1996, 1998), six-time All-American, four-time first team All-SEC singles performer, and won four Grand Slams (1996 ROLEX Indoor Doubles, 1996 NCAA Doubles, 1997 NCAA Doubles, 1997 ITA Clay Doubles).
The Gators will look to keep many streaks alive during this match. The club has 96 straight wins, including post-season victories. They also have 103 consecutive regular season home wins. Lauren Embree also did not lose a game in the season-opener against Troy. She also has won 42 straight singles matches in dual matches and 31 straight doubles matches in dual match play.
