The art of the bunt

Kim Waleszonia lays down a bunt to open an inning against Kentucky/Gator Country Photo by Tim Casey

In the bottom of the first inning in Florida’s second game in the Gainesville Regional championship bracket last Sunday afternoon, Kim Waleszonia led off for the Florida Gators and everybody in the ball park knew she was going to bunt. UCF’s first and third basemen were practically on top of her by the time Allison Kime’s first pitch reached the plate. Waleszonia dropped her bat on the ball, a perfect bunt that probably dribbled about four feet. UCF’s catcher was cat-quick coming out of her stance but even with that quick start and a throw that had some muscle behind it there was no catching Waleszonia.
