The University of Florida women’s swimming and diving team championed over Arkansas at their second dual-meet of the season. The Gators are still undefeated by the Razorbacks; they hold the series record at 5-0.

“We swam really well tonight,” explained head coach Gregg Troy. “It’s nice to see where we’re at right now, and overall, I’m pleased with the result.”

Sarah Bateman and Elizabeth Beisel teamed up with Natasha Fung and Hilda Luthersdottir to win the 400 medley relay title in 3:43.23. At the end of the meet, the pair of Bateman and Biesel combined with Teresa Crippen and Jamie Bohunicky to claim first place in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:24.37, a NCAA “B” cut.

Bateman also won first place in both the 100 back and free titles, with NCAA “B” cut times of 54.28 and 49.82, respectively. Alana Pazevic and Crippen were both right behind Bateman in the 100 back, claiming second and third place. Pazevic touched the wall at 56.09, and Crippen was right behind her with a time of 56.18.

“Sarah really stood out, and performed for us very well tonight,” said Troy of her two first place titles. “She did an outstanding job.”

Beisel also claimed two victories in the 200 and 500 free. She finished the 200 free in a NCAA “B” time of 1:47.74 and then went on to win first place in the 500 free, clocking in at 4:49.19.

Both Kaitlin Frehling and Kirsten Smith won their first individual events of the season. Frehling took first in the 50 free when she finished the race after 23.76. Smith was able to defeat the competition in the 400 IM with a time of 4:20.48.

Freshman Rebecca Rainer claimed her second individual victory when she won the 200 breast, clocking in at 2:15.63 (a NCAA “B” cut).

Bohunicky, Crippen and Luthersdottir were all able to claim individual wins for Florida. Bohunicky dominated the 1,000 free with a time of 9:55.34 and Crippen bested the competition in the 200 back with a time of 1:58.37. Luthersdotttir was able to touch the wall first in the 100 breast at 1:02.85, a NCAA “B” mark.

In the diving competition, sophomore Danielle Risley collected her second title on the one-meter board after she tallied 292.50 points for UF. Senior Kaylee Doback finished fourth with 274.05 points in the same event. On the three-meter board, Doback scored 304.65 points to finish second, and Risley tallied 301.58 points to finish third.

A group of eight swimmers from the women’s team will travel to Texas for the Dallas Classic, which begins Oct. 21 and runs through Oct. 22. The meet time is scheduled for 7 p.m. each day.

The men’s and women’s teams will face another SEC rival when they take on Georgia. The meet is the first long-course meet of the season and is scheduled for Oct. 28 at 11 a.m.
