RECRUITING: Buchanan narrowing it down

 |  March 9, 2007

Palm Bay High LB Ramon Buchanon has the athleticism to be an outstanding outside linebacker at the next level. With his excellent speed and hitting ability, it is not a surprise some of the top schools in the southeast are recruiting him hard. The Palm Bay prospect updates us on his team’s junior season as well as his recruiting process.

One of the top outside linebacker prospects in the state is Ramon Buchanon. The 6-1, 190 pound linebacker has sideline to sideline speed which can be used in any defense at the next level, shown through his 4.5 speed.

“We had a good year,” Buchanon said. “We finished 11-2 and we’re still getting better. I played strong side linebacker for most of the season, and came off the edge a little bit too.”

As far as his recruitment, Buchanon is beginning to narrow down some of the schools he is looking at.

“Right now, I’m interested in Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Wake Forest, and Miami,” Buchanon said.

However at this point in the recruiting process, you can judge a school’s level of interest in the player by whether or not he has an offer.

“Out of the schools I’m interested in, I’ve only been offered by Florida and Florida State,” Buchanon said.

Buchanon also attributes some of his interest in Florida to some of their recent success, and looks forward to gaining more information.

“I’m interested a lot in Florida because of the stability I feel like that program offers,” Buchanon said. “Seeing them win the national championship last season was great. I look forward to visiting and learning more about the program.”

“I’ve only been on the Florida campus one time and even that wasn’t for very long,” Buchanon said.

He also says that he wants to see not only more of the Florida campus, but every other school he is considering.

“I haven’t been to many of the schools I’m interested in, so I want to do that before I start narrowing anything down,” Buchanon said. “I want to learn more about the schools.”

With many of his visits to come shortly, the Palm Bay linebacker already knows what he is looking for in his final destination.

“I just want to be comfortable where I go,” Buchanon said. “I want to have a good relationship with everyone involved with the program I choose.”
