Powered by senior Ali Gardiner’s three hits, the second-ranked University of Florida softball team defeated Illinois, 9-1, in six innings in front of a capacity crowd at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Gardiner went 3-for-4 with an RBI, while senior Kristina Hilberth and junior Francesca Enea went 2-for-3 tallying three combined RBI. Senior Stacey Nelson recorded her eighth win while striking out six and not allowing a walk. The Gators (16-2, 0-0 SEC) stole a season-high six bases.
