Ouellette and Levine Garner ITA All-America Honors
Skillman, NJ - University of Florida junior Greg Ouellette and freshman Jesse Levine have been selected to the 2007 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-America Team for NCAA Division I men's tennis as announced by the organization Friday.
Both individuals earned honors in singles and doubles play as they were two of the 10 players nationally to do so. Ouellette became the program’s fourth four-time All-American joining Hamid Mirzadeh (five times), Jeff Morrison (four times) and Mark Merklein (four times). Levine became the school’s 16th student-athlete to earn the recognition and the 20th under head coach Andy Jackson who produced 15 while at Mississippi State.
Student-athletes earn ITA All-America honors in singles and/or doubles based on their final ranking, advancement at the NCAA Championship and/or seeding at the NCAA Championships.
Ouellette advanced to the round of 16 in the NCAA singles draw and finished the year No. 21 in the ITA poll. He and Levine teamed in the NCAA doubles draw and made it to the quarterfinal stage. The two finished the season with a 20-3 overall record. In singles play, Ouellette led the team in wins with a 30-9 mark. He was named to the first-team All-SEC squad for the third time in his career. The trip to the NCAA singles draw was his third straight.
Levine finished the year ranked third in the ITA singles poll, which was the highest spot for any freshman in the country. Levine was named the ITA National Rookie of the Year and the SEC Freshman of the Year. He completed his freshman season with a 24-1 overall singles mark to become the first Gator since 1976 to have one loss or less in a season and the seventh in the history of the program.
