Men’s S&D place second at invitational
The University of Florida men’s swimming and diving team captured second-place for the third consecutive year at the Georgia Tech Invitational this past weekend. The men were able to bring home one relay and four individual victories to finish behind Virginia Tech.
Freshman Matt Elliot and sophomore Marcin Cieslak each claimed individual victories and NCAA “B” times on Sunday afternoon. Elliott completed the 200 breast in 1:59.85, and Cieslak was the top finisher in the 200 fly with a time of 1:46.85.
Two swimmers were able to capture second and third place in the men’s 1,650 free. Carlos Omana clocked in at 15:26.41, and Jason Taylor was right behind him with a time of 15:29.85. Both swimmers made the NCAA “B” provisional cut in the event.
Brad deBorde and Connor Signorin were two of the highest finishers for Florida in two separate events, with deBorde finishing the 100 free in 44.96 for fourth place, and Signorin touching the wall at 1:50.84 in the 200 back to claim tenth place.
The quartet of deBorde, Cieslak, James Turner, and Scott Heil finished in 3:01.61 for fifth place in the men’s 400 free relay.
For the men’s diving team, Mike Lewark claimed ninth with 276.50 points and Chris Jones was close behind for twelfth with a score of 275.30.
Select Florida swimmers will be attending the USA Swimming National meet December 1-3 in Atlanta, Ga., while both diving squads will head to Athens, Ga. on Dec 2-4 for the Georgia Diving Invitational.
