Horschel Earns Second-Career PING All-Southeast Region Honor
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - University of Florida sophomore Billy Horschel (Grant, Fla.) has been named to the PING All-Southeast Region team, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Wednesday. As a member of an All-Region team, Horschel becomes automatically eligible for PING All-America honors, to be announced following this week’s NCAA Championships.
The All-Region nod is the second in as many collegiate seasons for Horschel, who was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Year and a first-team All-SEC selection in April. He has won twice this year, grabbing a share of the individual medal at the NCAA East Regional in the Gators’ last outing, and has posted five top-10 finishes.
When the NCAA Championships commence on Wednesday, Horschel will tee off with a team-leading 71.84 stroke average that ranks fourth all-time among UF sophomores. His career-low round of 63 came as part of an individual medal and team title-winning effort at October’s PING/Golfweek Preview Invitational at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va. - the site of the 2007 NCAA Championships.
Horschel and the Gators open NCAA Championships play on Wednesday at 12:30 EST. Scoring will be done live on the Internet at http://www.golfstat.com, and can also be accessed at http://www.gatorzone.com.
